Simple past: be

I was a teacher. You were at school yesterday. He was at home last night. It was hot last week. We were at work. You were in a hurry. They were in Canada.

AFFIRMATIVE

I wasn’t a teacher. You weren’t at school yesterday. He wasn’t at home last night. It wasn’t hot last week. We weren’t at work. You weren’t in a hurry. They weren’t in Canada.

NEGATIVE

Past Continuous

SEQUENCE OF EVENTS

• This shows that one action stops or interrupts a second action.

Example: Kate was calling the office when Sam arrived at the airport.

This means: First, Kate was calling the office. Then, Sam arrived at the airport.
