Word of what this island can offer is beginning to spread. The luxurious Hell Bay Hotel has won many awards, and TV chef Jamie Oliver has publically declared the tiny Fraggle Rock Bar to be one of Britain’s best pubs. Michael Morpurgo’s book ‘Why the Whales came’ is set on this island, and the movie of the book was fi lmed here.

80 people are lucky enough to call Bryher home. There is one shop where you can buy everything you need for your holiday as well as the local speciality ‘tatty cake’. There are also various food stalls beside the paths that cross the island, so you won’t go hungry!

B. There is accommodation for 80 visitors on Bryher.

6.A. You can buy food at just one location on

the island.

B. You can buy food at several locations on the island.

2 Read the pairs of sentences. Circle the pairs with the same meaning.

1. A. We may cancel some classes if there aren’t enough people.B. The number of classes available depends on the number of people.

2. A. 50% of your deposit will be refunded for cancellations made at least 4 weeks before your stay.B. You will get half your money back if you cancel your booking less than 4 weeks before your stay.

Welcome to Dodo Campsite!

A We think that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors! And in our opinion, some things are just essential when camping! Kids need a safe place to explore, you need good, fresh food and in the evening, what’s better than music around a camp fi re?

B There are three camping areas in large fi elds. In the centre of the largest fi eld is a big tent where music is performed every evening at weekends. We often hold workshops suitable for adults and children. Check our webpage to see what’s on. At reception, there is a shop, toilets, shower and a television and games room.

C The minimum length of a stay is two nights at weekends (Friday and Saturday). You may not start or end your stay on a Saturday except in winter. You can check in at any time after 3pm. We ask you to leave the campsite before 11am at the end of your stay.

D If you don’t have your own tent, you can sleep in one of our ten luxury tents at an extra cost. These come with double beds, chairs, tables and cupboards. You won’t need to set up a thing! Check our price list for details.

E In order to make sure our guests have a pleasant stay, we have a few simple rules. Please be quiet after 11pm. Radios and stereos are not allowed at any time. We cannot accept groups of young people under the age of 19 unless an adult is present. Fireworks are forbidden.

F If you earn a living from your music, you and your family can stay at Dodo campsite for free during our busy season between April and October. We’ll even give you some soup! All we ask is that you entertain our guests for at least one hour per night during your stay. Please email us in advance to arrange this.
