    The Miracle at the River

It began with the river flowing gently beneath the bridge,As the practical spring heat bared down on the ridge.Like an old summer joke played too early in the season,Muddy water raced fearfully towards them, for no reason.

As rock after rock dropped away from their bridge,

The bubbling water smashed wildly at the foliage,They searched behind them from time to time,But it seemed all nature helplessly watched this crime.

Dark clouds swung low as if to help,

An elm tree branch lowered joyfully to their shelf,They both held on as water thundered on by,The elm's strong branch kept them safe and dry.
