SPRINGTIME IN THE SMOKIES
The 30th is in the books! Even with less than ideal weather there were over 100 intrepid LBC
owners and European owners who made an appearance. Being new to the event, we learned
that Friday was set aside for setting up, catching up with friends and just generally getting the
field ready.
Saturday morning the weather did exactly what is was supposed to do…rain. Several people
did arrive without tops and not looking too worse for the wear! By noon the field was so wet
that “No Wake” zones were mandated to keep from spraying water on everyone around the
place. Several of us had actually paddocked our cars under the Big Tent Friday night to stay
dry. Didn’t work.
By 2 o’clock the skies finally brightened and the show went on. After the formal show was
over at 2, the 50/50 drawing was held and the silent auction was completed. Given the smaller
size field due to the weather you would have assumed that the response to the silent auction
would have been muted too. Not so, the crowd responded very enthusiastically to the items
available and we had a good “take” from the auction. Final numbers are still being calculated
but it looks like the silent auction raised a bit over $2100.
Approximately a dozen EAS members made it out to the show. EAS people did manage to
come away with some of the popular show hardware. Ty and Andi Nemeth took 2nd place in
the Italian car class with their Alfa roadster. Larry Benson took another 2nd in his beautiful
MGA and El Presidente got a 3rd place with his 1959 Bugeye.
Evening activities included the buffet banquet followed by an impromptu gathering at the fire
pit which, as it turned out, was necessary because it got cold! We are learning that the east
Tennessee adage of “wait 15 minutes and the weather will change” is based on fact!
Later in this issue you will find photos from the weekend. And, finally, thanks to all the
members who did come out and help throughout the event. Next up…the picnic at Ty and
Andi’s in Kingston. Till then, happy LBC driving!

Minutes from May 4, 2017 meeting
President John called the meeting to order. We had 15 in attendance. Thanks to Larry Benson for coordinating the meeting place. Treasurer’s Report: Don reported that we have $22.40 in the Flower Fund and approximately $1860 in the checking account. We now have 30 paid memberships for 2017. Old Business: Name tags – see President John or Mark Vaughn if want to order one. Don Zerrip was wearing his and happily “modeled” it for us! Reviewed the Springtime in the Smokies car show. They need HELP! Please volunteer – Friday and Saturday. General notes: as of meeting there were 26 pre-registered for the meet. Donations are needed for the Silent Auction at the Springtime in the Smokies show. This generates a large portion of the proceeds. John & Barbara Rigby are, again, coordinating this so please contact them if you have anything to contribute and/or to get a sample letter to use in soliciting donations from local businesses. Items that do really well are car models, car books, artwork and gift cards. They can be reached by email at . Andi Nemeth [email protected] the Friday night “feed” the masses. Will need help setting up. Meetings for the rest of 2017: Noted that we may need to find another place to meet in September. We were going to the Chop House but they are upping their minimum sales requirement to avoid a room charge. The Rigbys are trying to negotiate this – stay tuned. Also, still need a place to meet in October. New Business: None Activity Reports: Harpers Cars & Coffee filled the parking lot at the mall. This event is becoming a victim of its own success and not sure how long it can continue. Dogwoods & Mimosas: GREAT event – a big thanks to Jim & Diane deRopp for putting this drive together. Upcoming Events: May 12-14 – Springtime in the Smokies June 3 – Morristown’s Third Annual European Car Show – registration info in this newsletter
