Nowadays, popularities of animated movies among the teenager

increases as the animation of the movies are becoming more vivid and

attractive. So it is no doubt that there will have very strong competition

between those animated movies to get more attention from the teenager. I as

a teenager, I am also a part of the animated movies lovers since I was 5 years

old. For me, I would like to compare the similarities of my two favourite old

animated movies, which is The Lion King that produced in 1994 and Aladdin

that produced in 1992. I chose this two animated movies as they gave me the

same sensitivity and feeling which attractive me a lot after I watch them.

Basically, The Lion King tells us the story of Simba, a young lion who succeed

his father, Mufasa, as a king and the Aladdin is based on the story in Arab

folktale of Aladdin and the magic lamp from One Thousand and One Nights.

The first similarities that I had found in both animated movies are the

adventure they had gone through in the stories. In The Lion King movie, the

lion cub, Simba was teaching by his father, Mufasa the responsibilities of

being a king and the circle of life. However, Mufasa’s younger brother, Scar is

jealous and resentful of Simba so he tricked Simba various times in order to

kill samba as he wanted to step forward to become a king. So Simba was

going through a lot of fighting and killing which made him in danger until

Simba found his father’s body in gorge. For the Aladdin movie, Aladdin

ordered by Jafar, Grand Vizier to the Sultan of Agrabah to enter the Cave of

Wonder to retrieve a magical oil lamp that containing a Genie but he failed

and he was arrested for thievery by Sultan. Aladdin was also trapped into the

cave when they tried to escape from the cave that was collapsing while he

tried to retrieve the oil lamp for Jafar who tried to kill him for the second times.

So it shows that Aladdin had also gone through the adventure life which is

similar to The Lion King movie.

Then, the next similarities that had shown in both animated movies are

loyalty of love. In the Lion King movie, Nala as the best friend of Simba since

they are young and they had gone through the adventure life which made

their relationship tighter and closer. When they grew up, they fall in love in

each other and Nala agreed to help him fight when Simba realized that he can

no longer run from his past. After the war end, Simba looks down happily at

his kingdom with Nala who already became the important partner of his life. In

the Aladdin movie, Aladdin and Sultan’s daughter, Jasmine began their

friendship when she flees to Agrabah’s market place as she frustrated with

her life in the palace. Jasmine was heartbroken when Jafar lied to her that

Aladdin was already executed. They were falling in love with each other and

Aladdin hope Genie make him as a prince in order to be legally able to court

Jasmine. After the frustration he had met, he had finally married with Jasmine

after the law had been changed by the Sultan. So the love stories of both

movies make me feel very romantic and touching.

Next, sympathy and kindness of the main character had shown in both

movies. In The Lion King movies, at the pride land, Scar taunted Simba over

his "part" in Mufasa's death, but when Scar pushed Simba to the edge of

Pride Rock, he admited that he killed Mufasa. Then Simba jumped to Scar’s

back and forced him to reveal the truth to other lions and Scar attempted to

escape but failed. Then, Scar cornered by Simba at the top of Pride Rock and

he beg Simba for mercy and saying that he is one of his family members.

Simba felt sympathy with Scar and spared his life commanded him to forever

leave the Pride Land. For the Aladdin movie, while Aladdin was trapped in the

cave, he was unexpectedly released Genie who revealed he will grant Aladdin

three wishes from the lamp. When Aladdin contemplating his wishes, Genie

admitted he would wish for freedom and Aladdin promised to free Genie as

his last wish. In the end, Aladdin decided to keep his promises and wish for

Genie’s freedom. So the main character had shown their sympathy to let their

enemy or friend freedom.

The last similarities of both animated movies are the main character of

both movies became the lord of their kingdom which has the happy ending of

the movies. In The Lion King movies, Simba had been trained to become a

king since he was young. In the way of being a king, he met some of the cruel

character who tricked him in order to grab the king throne from Simba.

Fortunately, he did not give up and succeed to become a king after he

defeated his enemies in the battle. In the Aladdin movie, Aladdin was a

civilian in his country who tried to become a prince in order to marry with

Jasmine. He knew that the dream is hard to be achieved but with the help of

the Genie he was successfully married with Jasmine and became a king of

Aragbah. In both movies, the two main characters had succeeded to become

a king to their country.

Last but not least, there are some similarities that I had found between

these two movies that inspired me a lot in the way of being succeed in my

studies so it is no doubt that I had learnt something from the movies.
