THE ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) ENDORSEMENT PROGRAM AT BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY focuses on meeting the urgent need for Illinois teachers who can address the cultural, linguistic and developmental needs of a diverse group of students.

The ESL program challenges educators to examine the influence of culture on the political and social impact of teaching and learning in a second language.

The program prepares licensed teachers in the foundations and methods of teaching ESL in culturally and linguistically diverse settings.

The program consists of 18 credits of coursework and 100 practicum hours that enable licensed teachers to obtain the additional state approval needed to receive an English as a Second Language Endorsement.

All courses are based on adult learning principles and are delivered in a blended format that combines the most effective aspects of live instruction with self-directed, Internet-based learning.

Students also enjoy the benefits of a strong, values-based education with all the convenience of an adult learner setting.
