Part II: Personal Essay 30 marks
Consider the essays and articles we’ve read this unit:
a. What I’ve Learned from Writing – Shauna Singh Baldwinb. A New Perspective – Janice E. Feinc. Rink Rage – James Deacond. Blue Gold – Jim Hightowere. The Accidental Citizen – Mark Kingwellf. The Movie I’d Like to See – Geoff Pevereg. Heroes and Holy Innocents – Kathi Wolfeh. Peace A Hard Sell to Skeptical Youth – David Beers
We have had many discussions revolving around the topic of your generation and your attitudes towards the past, the present, and the future, since you started school. Within the discussions and within the readings, some have argued for or against the attitudes of your generation. Some suggest that the preceding generation—the Millennial generation—is skeptical. Amanda Gibbs in Peace a Hard Sell To Skeptical Youth suggests that they are “realistic, confident, optimistic, activist,” and “incredibly media literate.”
TASK: Using the literature listed above (that means you need to provide examples from the essays) and from your own personal experience or opinion, comment on what you believe YOUR generation to be and what you believe your generation will bring to the future.
NOTE: You MUST create a controlling idea for your essay.
