FND Repayments Engineer Pathway – key steps to progress

Gate 1

Gate 2

Gate 3

Pre-requisites

Repayments Overview appreciation WBT• Individual has completed Web Based training package to increase their knowledge on

repayments role and activities

Sign-off of buddying activities• Individual to work through the steps in the checklist and sign themselves off / self certify

as completed• Individual to consolidate the evidence of buddying on repayments activities and review

with their manager to confirm the individual believes that they are competent to carry out repayments, to trigger Gate 3

• Backdated pay uplift if completion of the activities trigger pay progression in line with the existing agreed approach i.e. it is triggered by the date the WBT is completed

Repayments - skills progression

Engineer responsibilitiesPre buddying

• Discuss their aim to develop their repayments skills with their manager• Complete the Web Based Training (WBT) ‘Repayments appreciation’ in the week before buddying on repayments commences• Work through the buddying checklist activities with support from the buddy

During buddying• Engineer is supported through the activities by their buddy, will be further supported by their manager and can ask for access to the WBT and to

complete the buddying checklist more than once, to assist them with their upskillingPost buddying

• Consolidate the evidence of completion of the buddying activities in the checklist • Self-certify as competent to carry out repayments work• Review the evidence of buddying on repayments activities with their manager, i.e. the completed buddying checklist and self certification

Buddy responsibilities• Observe, coach and guide engineer through the completion of their buddying checklist

Manager responsibilitiesPre buddying

• Ensure that there is demand in the patch on repayments • Assign WBT learning to engineer for completion a week before the engineer commences buddying• Allocate the engineer a buddy for the next repayment scheme of work in their patch

During buddying• Continues to check in with the engineer and provides additional support if needed

Post buddying• Review that buddying activities are completed • Sign off the buddying checklist so that the person has the skill recorded on their L&D record• Authorise pay progression when they have evidence that the repayments career pathway skill requirement has been met through completion of the

buddying checklist and self-certification• Check in with engineer to ensure they are confident in picking up the next scheme

Roles and responsibilities on self certifying and signing off skills

Light Cabling

Exchange work (Passive /Active)

Through completion of the Exchange work courses - ORFRM001 / ORNGA112 can execute work in the exchange for our FTTP Build programme; ODF, running cables, terminating in the cable chamber (CCJ) and the ability to build ODFs as per planned job pack. To include OCR/OFR as part of legacy exchange work.

Through completion of the light cabling course – ORCBL001 able to both joint and complete all light cabling activities.

Through completion of buddying checklist can execute work in both building the FTTP network and proving service E2E. This will include fibre testing and proving / rectifying basic provision issues, providing alternative solutions where necessary but passing to specialist engineer when goes above basic provision issues. Exchange to customer, includes multiple products – L2C/FOD/LFFN

FTTP Build - New skills for Cablers, not previously in the pathway

Soft Dig

Heavy Cabling

To enable people who have previously been trained on using the Compact Cabling Vehicle to safely use the Medium Cabling Vehicle and its associated equipment to carry out heavy cabling tasks. Heavy upskill - ACLT to ACHT, Conversion to Seven Tonne Cabling Vehicle (SCV)

The use of a hand held shovel to remove soft ground. Be proficient in the use of track and locate, obtain the necessary permissions, be trained in soft dig and execute the task in a safe fashion. This gained after completing an externally delivered course that covers excavation and full reinstatement in the highway.
