About proHNSEstablished in 2015 to fill a professional void in Southeast Alaska, proHNS is a small yet versatile con-sulting firm committed to performing work that improves local communities. proHNS staff have worked throughout Alaska providing engineering, design, inspection, permitting, and contract administration ser-vices. We recognize the hurdles we face as a new firm trying to break into the market, and as such we strive to work hard and prove ourselves deserving of your business.

Our company is led by two former Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities employees and professional engineers: Garret Gladsjo and Jeremy Stephens.

Garret Gladsjo, PEPrincipal EngineerJuneau Office

Jeremy Stephens, PEPrincipal Engineer

Haines Office

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Jeremy spent five years working as a Proj-ect Engineer for the Alaska Depart-ment of Transportation and Public Facilities before founding proHNS. He strives to maintain transparency and open lines of com-munication not only with contractors and clients, but with those working under his direction as well. With experience in leading teams of different sizes and facets of technical disciplines, Jeremy’s work ethic consistently promises suc-cessful project completion.

Garret’s experience over the last decade includes previous employ-ment with Snohomish County Public Works, Reichhardt & Ebe Engineer-ing, and the Alaska Department of

Transportation and Public Facilities. Garret has adminis-tered construction contracts for federal, state, and munici-pal projects, managed and trained project staff, performed design engineering, prepared contract documents, and navigated the complex relationships between members of the public, government agencies, and private industry.

Though our offices are based in Juneau and Haines, we have staff residing in communities all around Alaska, allowing us to reduce costs and maximize local insight by utilizing team members based in your area. Our experience has led us to appre-ciate how resource availability and logistics in Alaska affect the cost of a project. We are therefore committed to using local resources whenever possible, reducing the cost of shipping and handling when products are procured from out of town.

We recognize our clients’ desire to hire local firms capable of completing projects in a timely manner, and we can assure you that responsiveness is one of our core values. We know that given the opportunity, proHNS can offer a superior con-sultant service experience through clear and open communication, responsiveness, and our ambition to earn your trust.

Our ServicesproHNS provides a myriad of engineering, technical, and administrative services. In addition to providing complete teams for private and public projects, we are also available to work as a sub-consultant or as a third party professional services provider in situations where the primary contractor might not have the special-ized skills or time to perform the required task. Whether you are a homeowner installing a new septic system or a contractor constructing a multi-million dollar facility, our organizational structure is flexible enough to meet your needs and project goals.

Though we are a growing firm, we pride ourselves on providing low cost to our clients by reducing overhead and delivering innovative solutions. Instead of flashy offices and a large corporate structure, we rely on our industry knowledge and the best tools available to achieve the highest quality product by the most economical means.

ENGINEERINGWe specialize in several disciplines of civil engineering, including transportation, environmental, construction, and water resources. These disciplines include many types of services, some of which are:

• Land and site development• Water and wastewater utilities• Geometric design of streets

and roadways• Hydraulic analysis• Traffic studies

• Fish passage culverts • Pavement design• Highway clear zone analysis• ADA-compliant pedestrian

facilities• Plan peer review

Our team members are equipped with the specialized knowledge necessary for completing the technical aspects of your project. With an eye toward Alaska experience, we have recruited the best specification writers, CAD drafters, and condi-tion surveyors familiar with the state’s distinct geographic challenges and agency requirements.

• Grading and building permits• Wetland delineations• Condition surveys• Technical reports• Traffic control plans• Specification writing

• Environmental permitting (Army Corps, DEC, etc.)

• Utility and ROW permits• CAD drafting and modeling• SWPPP writing, erosion and

sediment control plans

Using Revit, proHNS provided 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional de-signs for this addition to the Haines Senior Center, which will provide a new home for the Chilkat Valley Preschool. Other services provided include project management and permit support. The plan set is out to bid with construction expected to begin in the spring of 2017. The grassroots fundraising effort organized by local parents and other res-idents inspired us to donate services to this project that will impact future generations of Haines citizens.

We designed the reconstruction of four Haines Borough roads: Fourth Avenue, Union Street, Dalton Street, and Totem Street. Four separate plan sets were produced to include roadway and sidewalk design, as well as adjustments to existing utilities and drainage structures to match the new roadway profiles.

This design project is currently 99 percent complete and on hold due to a more pressing road project presenting itself during design. We were able to meet with the borough at a moment’s notice, under-stand the circumstances, and stop all work on the project without additional cost.
