LAPTOP REQUIREMENT
The Opus College of Engineering curriculum reflects engineering education in the 21st century. This includes using the latest computer technologies in both teaching and learning to prepare students for a future increasingly defined by digital technology and team-based workspaces. As a result, all engineering students are required to have a laptop computer that meets college requirements.
LAPTOP COMPUTER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Most Opus College of Engineering students will use advanced engineering software that requires additional computing resources.
Processor: Minimum of dual-core with hy-per-threading. Quad-core recommended.
Operating System: Laptops must have Win-dows 10 installed. Most engineering software does not run on Apple MacOS.
Hard Drive: Minimum of 256 GB storage. Sol-id State Drive (SSD) highly recommended.
Memory: Minimum of 8 GB RAM. 16 GB is highly recommended.
Network: 802.11 AC wireless and Cat-6 Ether-net network cable.
Warranty: A 4-year warranty with accidental damage protection is recommended.
Other: Laptop security cable, USB mouse and 32 GB flash drive recommended.

Detailed information on the software required for each class will be available during the first week of the semester.
Microsoft Office 365 is available to Marquette students free of charge and includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and 5 Terabytes of online storage through OneDrive. Students may install Office 365 on up to five devices (Windows, Mac, iOS and Android).

Warranty & Support Summary • PDS Client Care: 877.737.7211 (877.PDSPC11) or [email protected]
• Staffed 24 x 7 x 365. Requests received after normal business hours will be processed the next business day.
• When calling about an issue, the PDS tech will attempt to troubleshoot over the phone and order part if needed.
PDS tech will go on-site to the Marquette campus once part is received, usually within 24 – 48 hours.
If issue is determined to be due to accidental damage, student will need to pay for the cost of repair
unless accidental damage warranty has been purchased.
• If the Solid State Drive is damaged and replaced, the student will be responsible for installing a new
operating system.
The IT Services Wired Office can assist with operating system installations; they are located in
Cudahy Hall, Room 238.
If a student has an issue that requires a part to be replaced while they are off campus, please use the following process:

• When you call, please have the following information readily available:
Contact name, callback number, and shipping information
Device serial number
Brief description of the problem
• Support will go through basic troubleshooting, so have the device readily available.
• If the issue cannot be resolved over the phone, they may schedule an on-site repair. On-site service should be available within 1 – 2 business days depending on the device location, service volume, and part availability.
• In some cases, HP or Lenovo may dispatch a shipping box to return the device for repair. Turn-around time for this service varies, but generally it is completed within a week.
