TODDLERSThe toddlers followed the theme ‘Ourselves’ by talking about themselves and what colour their hair and eyes are whilst painting some lovely self portraits.

The toddlers were also fortunate to meet Sonic the dog and the two mice, which they really enjoyed and we encouraged them to talk about where the animals lived and what they would eat.

The children have been very inquisitive about the building work and have loved looking out the window to see what’s going on. They have especially enjoyed watching the diggers, so we decided to include this in our activities. This involved making a construction site in the room with real bricks and planks of wood. They have also used the soft play area outside in the garden to construct large structures. The toddlers also created some junk models from recylcled objects and paint.

BABIESThe babies have had a very fun and messy time! Following our themes the babies painted pictures of their families and homes. They also had gloop play with some toy people and furniture in the play house.

There was a visit from a dog called Sonic and two mice during pet week which the babies were amazed by.

For the building theme the babies were given play dough which represented cement and plastic bricks which they used to practise building towers. The babies also created some digger pictures.

PRE-SCHOOLThe children were asked to bring in photographs of themselves for the project; ‘Ourselves’. This made a lovely group activity and the children really enjoyed telling everyone about them. As staff it has been lovely looking at the photos that were brought in.

We read the book the Large Family and the children spoke about their own family. They drew pictures of their mummies, daddies and siblings in their daily books. There was also the opportunity for the children to use play dough to make models of their family and pets.

The children then moved onto the next project which involved creating a building site on the outside decking using real materials.

The children will soon be involved in producing an autumn display using leaf rubbings and observational drawings of conkers.

TODDLERS CONTINUED: We asked the toddlers to talk about their own homes and from the discussion the children acted out the story of the three little pigs and produced a fantatsic display depicting the three houses (straw, sticks and bricks).

We carried on our building theme with the toddlers by making rocky road and cake houses.

COMING UPOur new wow books of the childrens’ work and observations are coming on really well. We may keep some of the childrens’ recent project work so that it can be included in these books.

After half term we will be teaching the children about the forthcoming events; Halloween, bonfire night, Diwali and Christmas.

On 12 December Catmose Nursery will be performing a nativity in the theatre at Catmose College. We would appreciate your help with your child’s costume and will be in touch regarding this nearer the time.

FACEBOOKWe now have a Catmose Nursery page on facebook and we are using this as a source to post photos of the children and the activities they have carried out. This will give you a clearer picture of what your child has been involved in during their time at nursery. You can like the page at www.facebook.com/catmosenursery
