CIDB HOLDINGS
ISSUE 1 - 2019
This verification and testing service is
provided CIDB Holdings, a subsidiary of
CIDB, and the service currently encompass
verification and testing for ceramics,
sanitary ware, glass, tap fittings, as well as
iron steel and scaffolding.
‘All the materials in Schedule 4 are part and
parcel of the structural integrity of a
building, so if these materials are
substandard, you are compromising the
structural integrity and safety of the
building,” said Norshah Shoib , General
Manager of the Quality Assurance Division
of CIDB Holdings
The certification process evaluates the
entire production cycle of the product of
issue, known as factory audit. During this
audit, an auditor will review a company’s
operational procedure including its quality
control plan, as well as its process flow for
inspecting incoming and outgoing materials.
Equipment used for daily quality inspections
will also be tested.
“We will check the suitability of the
equipment and how well it is maintained.
There must be some consistency in the
calibration of the equipment,” explains
Mohd Zahari Shariffuddin, Manager for
Quality Assurance Division, CIDB Holdings.
The testing lab has been relocated to a new
location in Shah Alam, at which the facilities
are more advanced compared to when at
the lab’s previously location in Jalan Chan
Sow Lin, Kuala Lumpur.

NEWSLETTER ISSUE 1 - 2019
KUALA LUMPUR, 30 January 2019 – The Construction
Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) and
Lendlease through the Safety Supervisor Apprenticeship
Programme (SSAP) has recruited 68 apprentices, of which
the third batch consisting 11 apprentices graduated today.
To date, a total of 34 apprentices have successfully
completed the programme. The SSAP graduates have
been offered employment opportunities in the construction
industry, including with Lendlease.
The SSAP is the first formal apprenticeship collaboration
between the CIDB and private sectors in Malaysia,
addressing the safety needs of the construction industry.
This initiative is also in line with the Construction Industry
Transformation Programme 2016-2020 (CITP) to create a
world-class construction industry that is highly productive,
environmentally sustainable, with globally competitive
players while focused on safety and quality standards.
Jointly developed by Lendlease and CIDB, the structured
programme provides industry-recognised training
(encompassing both theoretical and onsite training
components) through an integrated approach. Apprentices
who successfully complete the SSAP will earn various
certifications issued by the Department of Occupational
Safety & Health (DOSH), National Institute of Occupational
Safety & Health (NIOSH) and CIDB Akademi Binaan
Malaysia (ABM).
These certifications are required before the apprentices can
be appointed as site safety supervisors on construction
projects. The collaboration between Lendlease Malaysia
and CIDB will see a total of 150 apprentices being trained
over the five-year programme period. The SSAP varies
from 12 to 24 months, subject to trainees’ experience.
