TUESDAY
Autumn Today’s ENERGY WEEK ANNOUNCEMENTS will inform, delight, and
challenge you to lower our ENVIONMENTAL IMPACT – or CARBON
FOOTPRINT
Mary What is a CARBON FOOTPRINT? It is "the total set of greenhouse gas emissions
caused by an [individual, event, organisation, or product] expressed as CO2e." ---
basically this relates to the amount of electricity and energy we use that produce
carbon emissions from fossil fuels. (phew!)
Isabella So, first we’d like to share with you some of the things we are doing to be energy
efficient and lower our school’s carbon footprint here at Bosque:
Did you know we have a solar water heater on the Schoolhouse Building??
Myles And did you know that much of our outdoor lighting AND the water pump on our
pond are solar-powered?
Autumn And we also have automatic light-timer switches all around campus!
Mary One thing we ALL can do is KEEP THE DOORS CLOSED as a way to keep the
heating/cooling systems working efficiently!
Autumn Bosque School used 650, 000 kilowatt hours this past year! What can YOU DO
to lower our enviornmental impact!
Isabella Today’s energy challenge is: to use low or no heating or cooling - So here’s the
Energy tip:
- Adjust the thermostat temperature a couple degrees to save 5% - 20 % of
your energy costs
- AND remember to keep our doors closed.
Myles And, now we have a joke of the day for you:
Mary Did you hear that Mr. Etigson wanted to plant a lightbulb?
Autumn Really?! Why???
Mary He wanted to grow a POWER plant!!
Isabella The Energy STARS will be out at lunch today helping you sign the energy pledge
and take the Energy Conservation Challenge. TODAY you can pick up a puzzle
sheet AND an ENERGY PENCIL and learn a bit about energy and conservation.
