ENERGYRESOURCESTHE WORLD RAN OUT OF ENERGY WHAT WILL WE USE
B Y : A B B Y M A R T I N
COAL Cons:Coal is a nonrenewable resourcesBurning coal lets of harmful wasteCoal ash is hazards and a disposal problem Pros:Coal is on of the most abundant sources of energy Coal is widely and easily distributed all over the world
Can be converted into a gas or a liquid witch burns
cleaner
HYDROELECTRIC
Cons:Hydroelectric power production require flooding
of entire valleys and scenic areas.Changes in river or stream qualityIt needs a larger enough reservoirPros:Pollution is rarely createdIt’s a renewable resource It’s very important because a lot of people use
it and depend on it
WIND
Cons:Animals like birds are killed by wind turbinesWind turbines are very noisy, people that live near them are
annoyed by themThe wind turbans can get damaged very easily by a storm and
lighting Pros:Renewable ResourceVery low costThe biggest benefit is one can reap out of wind energy that it
generates electricity, but does not produce any harmful waste
GAS/OIL/PROPANE (FOSSIL FUELS)
Cons:Non-renewable rescoreIt contains a large amount of carbon dioxideGas/Oil/ and Propane is contains a large amount of
harmful wastes Pros:It’s lighter than air It can be used for cooking, your car, etc…They can be easily transported from place to place
SOLAR
Cons:They take up a lot of spaceThey only work when the sun is shinningCloudy, rainy, etc. weather can effect how the
solar cells that produce energy Pros:Renewable resourceNon-pollutingIf you live in a dessert a remote village a big city
etc. is available to everyone
BIO-FUEL(BIOMASS)
Cons:the levels of power/energy it produces are not high enoughThe main issue is producing biofuels in a sustainable wayLost of habitat because of cultivating Pros:Apart from the fact that bio fuels help us to keep the
environment clean, they also help us to use the resources provided by nature in an effective way.
Renewable ResourceOnce the technology is widely available, biofuels can be
significantly less expensive than gasoline and other fossil fuels
NUCLEAR
Pros:Nuclear has a very low pollutionNuclear power plants need little fuel, so they are less vulnerable
to shortages because of strikes or natural disastersCons:The byproducts of the fissioning of uranium-235 remains
radioactive for thousands of years, requiring safe disposal away from society until they lose their significant radiation values
Radiation doses of about 200 rems cause radiation sickness, but only if this large amount of radiation is received all at once
MY OPINION ON WIND
Wind. Wind is a renewable resource. I chose wind
because it is windy in almost every state. I did not choose Gas, oil and propane because it is not a renewable resource as well as Nuclear, and Coal. Nonrenewable is something that if you use it all up it cant be use again. Renewable is something that can be use over and over and it can never run out like Wind, Geothermal, Bio-fuel, Solar, and Hydroelectric.
