Minister of Oil Meets with KOC Fire Champions Al-Failakawi and Al-Qallaf meet Minister at his office

Dr. Ali Al-Omair, Minister of Oil and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs for the State of Kuwait, recently welcomed KOC Firefighters Abdulrahman Al-Failakawi and Mohammad Al-Qallaf to his office. The Minister of Oil personally congratulated the two for their international accomplishment after they obtained the fifth place position in the Doubles category at the Firefighter Combat Challenge that took place in the US state of Virginia recently.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Fire Manager Ali Al-Bairami, the Minister praised the efforts exerted by both champions to raise Kuwait’s flag in the international arena. He also encouraged the two to continue in their efforts and do more to advance the reputation of Kuwait’s firefighting capabilities. He then wished them the best of luck and success in all their future endeavors.

During the competition, Al-Failakawi obtained the eighth overall position, whereas Al-Qallaf finished 17th among 100 firefighters from around the world. The two also obtained the fifth place position in the very challenging Doubles category.

KOC Holds Meeting with PAAFKOC delegation headed by DCEO Saad Al-Azmi

KOC recently held a meeting with the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAF). During the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of issues related to the Company’s operations in the Abdali farm area.

The KOC delegation was headed by DCEO (Administration & Finance) Saad Al-Azmi. Acting Public Relations & Information Group Manager Qusai Al-Amer and Acting Production & Projects (Gas) Group Manager Yousef Al-Humoud and a number of Team Leaders also attended. The PAAF delegation was presided over by Director of Agricultural Properties Management Dalal Rajab.

In a statement he made during the event, Al-Azmi maintained that the Company spared no efforts in its drive to achieve cooperation with various ministries and government institutions for the benefit of the public’s interest. He also praised the close cooperation between KOC and PAAF and expressed his wish for such meetings to achieve the objectives desired by all sides.

MP&TS Conducts QPR HSE MeetingDCEO Al-Houti upholds the importance of HSE values

The Major Projects and Technical Services (MP&TS) Directorate recently conducted its first QPR HSE meeting for the 2015/16 fiscal year. MP&TS DCEO Esam Al-Houti, in addition to the Manager and Team Leaders from the Directorate, also attended the meeting along with representatives from Project Management Consultancy (PMC).

Al-Houti awarded a number of employees from MP&TS Directorate for their hard work and adherence to HSE standards. During the event, Quality & HSE Team Leader Faris Al-Mansouri delivered a presentation that focused on team performance.

In addition, a review of the Directorate’s adherence to HSE measures for the first quarter of the fiscal year was presented. Feedback and suggestions were discussed in order to reduce a number of HSE issues.

At the conclusion of the event, Al-Houti thanked all Managers and Team Leaders present and upheld the importance of preserving the lives of employees and contractors working at sites. He also pointed out that the real accomplishment was in achieving safe-man hours without incidents, injuries or fatalities, in addition to the project’s completion.

KOC Holds Meeting with PAAETKOC represented by DCEO (S&EK) Al-Sumaiti

A meeting was recently held between KOC and a delegation from the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET), headed by Director General Dr. Ahmad Al-Athari. KOC was represented by the S&EK Directorate.

During the meeting, which was chaired on behalf of KOC by Deputy CEO (S&EK) Abdulla Al-Sumaiti, both parties discussed the best ways to attract graduates from PAAET to work for KOC.

Al-Sumaiti upheld the importance of such meetings organized by the Company in order to prepare technical personnel who are capable of meeting the challenges that KOC faces. These challenges, he said, are concerned mainly with the growing demand for energy and the consequent need to increase production while keeping up with the various technological developments in the oil sector.

Contract Manpower Kuwaitisation Team Organizes Field TripsTrips to work sites organized for potential employees

The Contract Manpower Kuwaitisation Team recently organized nine field trips for candidates interested in drilling positions in the field. These field trips represent the first time the Company has taken the step to organize field trips to the field for potential Kuwaiti employees. The first batch under the field trip mechanism included 305 candidates. Approximately 40 candidates took part in each field trip.

Each trip included a visit to worksites in the fields, where candidates spent the night. In addition, the candidates paid visits to an employee camp to see how workers live while working in the field.

The field trips began with a presentation on HSE and an overview of KOC careers and the future they can provide. The candidates then visited sites in either Raudhatain or Sabriya in North Kuwait. Upon arrival at the locations, the candidates listened to a detailed explanation of all aspects of the work conducted there before moving to the Company’s camp. At the camp, the candidates were able to view all the facilities in order to become better acquainted with the place that would become their home while in the field.

The trips were organized so that candidates could be made aware of all the aspects of life in the field, which includes a schedule of one week of work followed by one week off. Company officials realize that this line of work may not suit all applicants, which is why the field trips are important for all involved, as it creates a clear picture of the actual work required and the lifestyle that accompanies it.

Maintenance Team (SK) Organizes WorkshopFor Kuwaitis working in private sector

The Maintenance Team (SK) recently organized a training course at the Maintenance Workshop that aimed to enhance the professional experience for Kuwaitis working in the private sector. The course concentrated on the maintenance of boosters and was attended by a group of Kuwaiti employees who work in maintenance-related services at Burgan (South Kuwait).

Participants received theoretical and practical training on boosters and ways of maintaining them. They were also introduced to work hazards and safety measures that should be taken into consideration and followed while on duty.

Team Leader Maintenance (SK) Ali Qassem supervised the course while Specialist Emad Azzam supervised the training. Employees that took part in the training expressed their appreciation for the effort placed in conducting the course and for the benefit they had gained.

Mid-Year Performance Review System Launched by Studies Unit from the HR Group

The Studies Unit from the Human Resources Group recently launched the Mid-Year Performance Review System (2015-2016) for NCAEs. The system serves to develop the Company’s management methods.

The Mid-Year Performance Review System also aims to increase employee efficiency, performance, and engagement levels by utilizing the latest methods and best practices. In addition, the system follows up on the performance of employees over the past year.

Officials have maintained that this system is a significant element of KOC’s 2030 Human Resources Strategy. One of the objectives of the strategy is to increase the level of employee engagement through periodic monitoring throughout the year. It also seeks to identify strengths and limitations in the employee’s performance while also working towards developing skills to improve performance levels.

The Mid-Year Performance Review System aims to increase levels of employee engagement, achieve end-of-year targets, enhance communication between seniors and employees, and improve levels of achievement, which are all subject to an assessment at the end of the year.

“Operation Excellence” Initiative LaunchedNew initiative launched by Water Handling Team (NK)

The Water Handling Team (NK) recently launched the “Operation Excellence” Initiative during a meeting that was attended by the Acting Team Leader of the Water Handling Team, Khaled Al-Fahad. Snr. Engineer Yousef Al-Obaid, who served as the initiative’s Task Force Leader, also participated, along with consultants from international oil companies such as Total and QRI.

This initiative aims to improve general performance by leading a group of KOC contractors from international oil companies to achieve operational excellence in North Kuwait’s Water Handling Facilities. The initiative aims to improve business through a sustainable process that will achieve maximum actual production with the least amount of oil loss overtime. It also seeks to minimize planned/unplanned facility shutdown durations and use data centers to increase collaboration on clearing well areas from obstacles for drilling rigs.

In addition, more objectives the initiative seeks to accomplish is the reduction of incidents, improving performance, shortening cycle times by reducing errors, bridging communication gaps, reducing cost, improving maintenance planning and implementing the use of new technologies.

Back to School ExhibitionOrganized by Community Services Team

As part of the services it provides to Company employees,

Ahmadi Services Manager Nouri Al-Khatrash recently

inaugurated the “Back to School Exhibition” for children on

behalf of KOC. The exhibition featured school stationary

supplies and bags for students preparing for the new school

year.

The exhibition was organized by the Community Services

Team at the KOC Tent and was attended by Team Leader

Community Services Nasser Al-Mutawaa and Team Leader

Building Maintenance Fayez Al-Mathkour.

The exhibition, which was held over the course of three days,

offered a mixture of various, exclusive offers to KOC employees

and Ahmadi residents.

Subsurface TIU Organizes Coaching Awareness SessionEvent held at KOC Guest House

The Subsurface Training Implementation Unit (TIU) recently organized its third annual Coaching Awareness session at the KOC Guest House. The sessions are part of the Subsurface TIU’s efforts to enrich the skillsets of its employees.

Opening comments during the session were delivered on behalf of Team Leader TPD Eisa Al-Daihani by Syed Mohammad Raza (TPD). The importance of coaching and its impact on overall organizational effectiveness was highlighted in the closing comments. A total of 34 Subsurface Senior Employees from a number of Groups attended the workshop and shared their experiences with the coaching practices.

The objectives of the coaching awareness session aimed to share a general view of experts on ways of developing their own coaching skills, discuss the definition of coaching, review the existing coaching process, share effective coaching skills, and explain the impact of coaching.

Participants at the session said they appreciated the initiative and provided feedback through a formal survey that was conducted at the end of the session. They also requested that more intensive workshops be provided because of the effective learning opportunity the sessions provide.

The Maintenance Team (EK II) recently organized an Eye Examination Day in cooperation with Ahmadi Hospital. The campaign was organized so that it could act as a preventative measure for individuals to check their eyes before the advent of any conditions or diseases that affect the eyes or vision. This is especially relevant for those in the oil industry, as employees who work in the field are often exposed to a variety of chemicals, in addition to harsh weather conditions. It is recommended that employees who work in the field conduct eye examinations on a regular basis.

Officials involved with the campaign said the initiative was very much appreciated by visitors. More than 50 individuals received eye examinations during the campaign.

In appreciation of their efforts, Dr. Intisar Al-Hindal and Dr. Al-Sanusi from Ahmadi Hospital were presented with tokens of appreciation by Abdullah Hadi Al-Ajmi, Team Leader Maintenance Team (EK-II) and Senior Engineer Mohammad Al-Sarraf.

Officials maintained that this Eye Examination Day was the first that has been organized specifically for employees who work in the field. The event also served as a display of the commitment of the Operations Group (EK) to the health of its employees.

KOC recently hosted the Company’s annual Swimming Competition. The event falls under the umbrella of social activities and sports competitions that are organized by the Company throughout the year.

The event, organized by the Community Services Team, was held in the Sports Center in Ahmadi. More than 46 competitors participated in the event.

TL Community Services Nasser Al-Mutawaa and Senior Admin. Officer Mitiab Al-Dousari honored the competition winners. In addition, they also presented awards to the winners of various competitions that took place during Ramadan.
