What is Energy? Why does it matter to me?

Energy is involved in everything we do!

There are three main forms of energy that we will be learning

about!

1) Conduction2) Convection3) Radiation

CONDUCTION!

• Heat is conducted or passed from one object to another.

• Metal is a very good conductor of heat energy.

• If you use a metal pan to bake brownies, the metal pan conducts the heat energy away from the oven, through the pan, to the brownies!

CONVECTION!

• Convection uses hot air to transfer energy.• When using a convection oven to bake, hot

air is distributed around the oven in order to cook or bake food.

• Thermals in the atmosphere are an example of convection. These pockets of warm air help to keep gliders floating and sailing in the sky!

RADIATION!

• Heat and energy radiate from an object.

• The sun’s light and heat are a form of radiation.

• Energy is radiated in the form of heat or thermal energy.
