In 1885, company founder, Warren Johnson launched an industry focused on energy efficiency.

He was the inventor of the first electric in-room thermostat.

Johnson created huge pneumatic tower clocks. He experimented with electric steam batteries and started a wireless telegraph business. He developed steam powered vehicles, from luxury touring cars to the first postal service trucks.

Most of his patents were devices aimed at harnessing the sustainable power derived from air, steam or fluid pressure.

West Point, Georgia Plant

50 percent of plant’s energy is from renewable sources including hydro, biomass, solar and wind, which will save the emission of nearly 7,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide over the next six years – the equivalent of planting nearly 200,000 trees

Roof has a white TPO roof membrane, which greatly reduces heat gain thereby reducing HVAC loads and electrical energy consumption.

The use of high-efficiency fluorescent lighting, and motion sensors in plant and office areas reduces electrical energy consumption.

Construction debris generated during building construction was recycled.

Power Improvements: Florescent lights added on shop floor to reduce electricity.

Replaced old bulb lights “Go dark” program: Sensors shut off lights when program

is down LED lights installed in exit signs when replacing lights Battery Hi-lo's. Reduced from 26 to 21 AGC use:

• Interchangeable material handling and shipping components• 100% re-deployable / re-configurable by BWI employees to meet

needs of plant

Air Improvements: Air compressors run on demand vs. all the time Air leak program. Fixed leaks to reduce air loss. Large overhead fans added to circulate air.
