  A  Resource Outlet containing an educator’s

guide and several books for varied reading levels.

 Air Leakage at Home- Students will discuss where

air leaks occur in the home and learn ways to stop

them by installing switch plate insulators.

  Are Your Computers Wasting Energy?-

Students will take an audit of their home and school

computers and learn how to make their computers

energy savers instead of wasters.

  Auto Tire Pressure- Students will use a tire

pressure gauge to learn how under inflated tires

affect gas mileage for a vehicle.

 Cost Effective Buying- Students will learn how

to evaluate energy related purchases in terms of cost effectiveness, and rate of return.

 Energy Trip Ticket- Students will learn about an

energy crisis and how wasting energy or 

conserving energy affects it by using energy

“tickets.”

 How Much Energy Do You Use?- The students

will use a Watt’s Up Meter to look at energy use at

home and in the classroom to determine the cost

of running these items.

 Tale of Two Light Bulbs- Students will examinelife costs of compact fluorescent and incandescent

light bulbs to find the best deal and best

technology.

 Meter Reading- Students will learn to read utility

meters and compute energy use.

 Secret Mission Behind Power Lines- Students

will survey their school for energy waste or savings

to determine if being Watt Watchers will save

energy and money for their school.

Traveling Energy Exploration Stations (similar to discovery boxes) are available for teachers to

check out and use in their classrooms for FREE! We will ship the box to you at no cost. You can

use it in your classroom for several weeks and then we will arrange for it to be picked up at no cost.Most of the materials you need for these activities are included in the box. You supply basics like

water and scissors, and of course appliances. All the activities included in the Energy Efficiency Traveling

Energy Exploration Station have background information and discussion questions to aid you and your 

class.

 Texas Public Transit and You- Students will

discover ridership statistics about public

transportation and discuss reasons behind those

numbers.

 The Pay Me Game- Students will use play money

to understand the dollar cost of their energy habits.

 Who’s Who in Electricity- Students will research

contributions of scientists in the field of electricity.

classroom investigative skills and foster 

critical thinking skills. Each activity strives
