European Energy Smart Cities for the future – how to reach a higher level? Experiences and best practices are available but how can they be adapted to other cities? How to plan for, identify and implement proven solutions under differentconditions in other cities and still reaching the results desired?

PLEEC – “Planning for energy effi cient cities” is an international research project fi nanced by the EU Seventh Framework Programme which is using an integrative approach to achieve the sustainable energy effi cient smart city. The partner consortium consists of 18 partners from 13 different European countries representing six mid-sized cities, nine universities and three industry partners. By coordinating strategies and combining best practices, PLEEC will develop a general model for energy effi ciency and sustainable city planning.

The PLEEC project arranges this forum to highlight and discuss the challenges in identifying and adapting the best available practices from different cities of Europe to fi t with the unique conditions of each specifi c city. The aim of the forum is to share experiences in order to further develop the future tools for the city’s planning process in becoming a true energy smart city.
