Introduction v

Introduction A typical college student, has more than likely consumed an energy drink. Whether a student is studying for a final and just doesn’t have enough energy, getting ready for a big game, or just really enjoy the taste, energy drinks have become a secondary to water.

Throughout this feasibility report we look at the main energy drinks, Full Throttle, Monster, Red Bull, and Rockstar. We observed and reported the price, ingredients, caffeine, and taste.

Chapter 1: Price

Price A main category that must be considered to determine which of the energy drinks are amongst the best is pricing of the drinks. As you can tell for the following four brands of energy drinks their prices vary depending on which type you look at. The following prices below are examined by the price they cost according to Wal-Mart.

Average Price Monster (16 oz)

• 1 can - $2.68 • 4 pack - $5.98 • 12 pack - $16.88

Redbull (8.4 oz)

• 1 can - $3.68 • 4 pack - $5.98 • 12 pack - $17.88

Rockstar (16 oz)

• 1 can - $1.98 • 4 pack - $5.92 • 10 pack - $13.98

Full Throttle (16 oz)

• 1 can - $1.68 • 4 pack - $4.98 • 16 pack - $40

Chapter 2: Ingredients

Ingredients Ingredients are very important when trying to find out which energy drink is the best for you. We looked at the main ingredients that make up an energy drink, such as, taurine, guarana, sodium, and vitamins.

Monster Energy drink contains a lot more taurine which is an amino acid that is important to your metabolism. However Monster contains no guarana, which is an ingredient that causes the jitters and sometimes insomnia.

Red bull contains more sugar than monster but also doesn’t have Guarana, so it also does not give you jitters. The amount of sodium in red bull is almost double any other energy drink in the market

Full Throttle has a very small amount of sugar compared to the other energy drinks. The amount of caffeine makes up for it with 200mg of caffeine in a 16 fluid ounce container.

Rockstar contains 1000mg of taurine, which is the same as Monster. It has 140 calories and double the amount of sugar when comparing to the other three leading brands.

How much caffeine?

Will you crash? More than likely yes you will witness a crash after drinking a Red Bull, just like any other energy drink. But, it will not be a significant crash due to the fact that it has less caffeine.

Yes, the only complaints about the effectiveness of Monster were that it sometimes can cause a crash after consumption and it takes a little longer for the drink to kick in just after consumption.

Rockstar will also cause a crash that may seem worse then others due to the fact that it comes quicker. You lose the initial energy boost very soon and start to get tired.

Full Throttle is closely compared to Monster, depending on how much is consumed and how long it takes you to get the energy kick determines how bad your crash will be.

Taste

Initial taste Red Bull’s initial taste hits you a lot differently than most. It is a light, non-sugary taste that doesn’t seem to coat your mouth with pounds of sugar.

The initial taste of a Monster Energy drink is a heavy carbonated taste. It tastes like a mixture of a fruit tasting drink and a carbonated soda, mixed in with thirst quencher.

Rockstar comes in many different flavors, but their main flavor gives you a kick right from the start. Immediately you feel unquenched and wanting more of the drink.

Full Throttle seems to be the least favorite amongst the various tests we took, its initial taste is sour and unexpected.

After taste The after taste of Red Bull is not as pleasing as the initial taste, but is better then what you would taste after a soda. It leaves a soft film of taste that leaves you wanting more.

The after taste of Monster has a similar taste as the after taste of a soda. If the whole container is consumed it tends to make the consumer more thirsty after drinking it.

Though the initial taste of Rockstar may keep you attracted, the after taste leaves you wanting some ice water. Right after the refreshing taste, you are hit with a dry mouth and sugary teeth.

The after taste of Full Throttle is just as bad as the initial taste, it leaves you wanting to drink more just to get the after taste out of your mouth.

Conclusion Based on our results, Red Bull had the least amount of caffeine, best taste, and best nutritional facts. The prices as you could see from the chart we displayed were similar. These results are significant because by using charts, it helped us determine exactly which energy drink is the best choice for the average college student.

Recommendation We recommend Red bull as the best tasting and most effective energy drink on the market. Red Bull is also the healthier choice for energy drinks where you don’t catch yourself taking in too much sugar and also too many calories. If you are looking for an effective energy drink, Red Bull is definitely the energy drink for you.
