The mission of Endicott College is to instill in students an understanding of and an appreciation for professional and liberal studies. Deeply woven within this philosophy is the concept of applied learning, which has been the hallmark of Endicott. Linking classroom and off-campus work experience through required internships remains the most distinguishing feature of the College.

Endicott has a vision for the total development of the individual within a community that fosters an appreciation of diversity, international awareness, community service, and moral and ethical values. Endicott is an innovative and vibrant, student-centered institution that supports undergraduate and graduate students in their pursuit of knowledge.

Common threads run through the fabric of the Endicott experience: increased self-confidence, stronger professional skills and technological competencies, and perhaps the most valued of all, lives open to change.

As a serious high school athlete debating which level of soccer to continue my career in, DIII became the obvious choice. It became a place where I could still be very com-petitive, successful and dedicated to both my team and my academics. Endicott has provided me with a highly com-petitive soccer program that has enabled me to continue my passion for the game and carry on the team’s historic success. The combination of an established soccer program, beautiful campus, community feel and academic success is why I chose Endicott. – Caitlin Peters

lexi dussiEndicott is the perfect fit for me both academically and athletically. Student-athletes at Endicott are afforded the opportunity succeeded both in the classroom and on the playing field. The athletic depart-ment has flourished immensely and fosters leadership and dedication through sport. I have grown as an individual and as a player be-cause of the camaraderie our team embraces. Although I originally had plans to play at a higher level, being a part of a smaller DIII program has exceeded my expectations and has allowed me to enjoy the full college experience. I am certain that I will graduate with an unprecedented amount of knowledge based on the way Endicott academics and athletics have shaped me. – Lexi Dussi

After transferring to Endicott from a Division I University I realized that a DIII college with a smaller community is really what suited me best. The small classroom sizes and one of a kind internship program have helped me excel academically and build relationships with professors and colleagues. Along with academics, Endicott has a strong legacy in athletics. The athletes are driven and moti-vated with the expectation to win. The work ethic and values that I have learned through athletics here have shaped me and set me up for success in the future and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of such a great program. – Chelsea Garlock

One of the most successful teams in school history, the 2012 Endicott women’s soccer team has once again set its sights on supremacy in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Gulls program has a storied history of accomplishments, which includes eight conference titles and a current streak of 11 consecutive CCC championship appearances.

The Gulls have been unlucky in the last two finals, however, losing to Roger Williams on a late goal in double overtime last season after falling to the Hawks on penalty kicks in 2010. Both of those contests took place in Bristol, Rhode Island, a trend that eighth year head coach Jodi Kenyon would like to change.

“Our main goal this year is to win all our conference games to be able to get back to the tournament, play at home and take it one game at a time from there,” said Kenyon, Endicott’s active leader in winning percentage. “We don’t want to put the pressure on ourselves that we have to be in the champion-ship game, but we’ve been denied that the past few years, so there’s some unfinished business.”

The 2012 team will be comprised of a strong veteran core that includes seven members each from the senior, junior and sophomore classes returning for the Gulls from a team that last year finished with a record of 12-9 and made their second consecutive appearance in the ECAC New England tournament. They will be joined by 19 freshman hopefuls, many of whom with the talent and experience to make immediate impacts.

Endicott’s experience and leadership will start with its back-line of defense, which will feature two four-year starters in Lauren Todd and center back Caitlin Peters, team co-captain and reigning CCC Defensive Player of the Year. They will anchor a defensive line that gave up an average of just a goal a game last year and nine times kept their opponents off of the scoreboard.

“The experience that we have back there is going to be the best aspect of our game,” said Kenyon. “Peters has such as great way of reading the game and staying composed and pro-viding good solid leadership in the back line. Everyone seems to rely on her. Lauren is a vocal and energetic leader, and she always provides an emotional push.”

Joining the defensive backfield will be senior Christine Silva, who last year was named Second Team All-New England as well as Honorable Mention All-CCC. Silva, along with returns Allison Ferro, Madison Missinne and Sarah Person and the addition of some key freshman, will combine to produce speed on the flank and an added offensive push out of the back.

In midfield Endicott will look for increased contributions from second-year player Hannah Schneidenbach, who is solid in the air and plays a physical, aggressive style.

Battling in central midfield will be senior Christina Vellucci, who scored four goals a year ago, while on the midfield flanks will be senior co-captain Chelsea Garlock, who showed her

ability to get forward and make things happen last year when she was named to the Third Team All-New England Region. She will be joined by Micaela Hogan, Heather Moody and Van-essa Caruccio, who had two goals and five assists last year in a midfield that will feature experience, speed and athleticism.

The forward position will have to cope with the graduation of Colleen Pepin, who became the second leading goal-scorer in Endicott history with 16 tallies last year. The Gulls will look to adapt by spreading out their scoring through the midfield and forward spots, with juniors Lexi Dussi, a co-captain, and Nicole Fournier leading the charge. Fournier was the second-leading scorer on the team last year, netting eight goals, including three game-winners. Moody, Caruccio and Garlock will also look to come forward and get on the score-sheet.

“This will give us an opportunity for us to be a more rounded offensive threat and for others to step up and provide offensive scoring power. Any of these kids can be solid and prolific goal scorers,” Kenyon said of Pepin’s departure. “It’s going to force somebody to lead and take charge and when we need a goal scored they’re going to have to step up and do it. We’re much more of a team unit than one person.”

The Gulls will have depth at the goaltender position, as junior Natalie Wyrsch and sophomore Katie Donnelly, who split time last year, will both return to the squad. They will be joined by freshman Julianna McDermott who is coming from a large high school and solid club program to provide a solid challenge

and more depth, creating a solid goalkeeper unit.

Kenyon expects the youngsters to push the veterans at every position and challenge them in practice and for playing time up and down the roster. She hopes that those veterans will use some of the adversity they have faced over the past few seasons to fight through tough spots this year.

“All the experiences we’ve had in the past are good experiences, like losing games in OT and in the last few seconds. The veterans have that fire -- they don’t’ want to be in those situations. All those experiences have led to providing great leadership and a solid cohesion within the team. It’s going to be important to incorporate these fresh-men into that off the bat,” said Kenyon.

Endicott’s non-conference schedule, which will again be one of the most competitive in the region, will include teams such as Union, Babson, Wellesley, Tufts, Williams and Salem State, while also add-ing Plymouth State and Lesley’s programs to the mix. Though they are a tune-up for the conference portion of the season, Kenyon wants to focus on getting solid results in these matchups to propel the Gulls into the top rankings in the region.

As always, the second half of the season will be focused on winning a very competitive Common-wealth Coast Conference, where the Gulls will have to deal with University of New England, Salve Regina, local rival Gordon and solid challenges from schools like Nichols and Wentworth, in addition to the defending champion Hawks. “Everyone is getting better,” said Kenyon, who stressed the need to build from every game and show the proper focus for every opponent.

Endicott’s 2012 campaign will begin at nearby Salem State on September 2nd, with the home opener against Wellesley slated for Wednesday night, September 5th.

Jodi Kenyon

One of the most successful teams in school history, Endicott’s women’s soccer program is coming off of their eleventh

consecutive appearance in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament championship game. Head Coach Jodi Kenyon, who is about to begin her eighth year at the helm, has had a big part in that success. She has led the Gulls to four conference championships and five NCAA tournament appearances, where they have collected five victories, and has compiled a record of 113-37-8, making her the active leader in winning percentage among Endicott coaches.

Kenyon’s players and teams have shined in conference play, where she has coached them to a mark of 75-9-1. Gulls women’s soccer players have also received numerous conference awards and all-conference recognition, highlighted by seven student-ath-letes earning the conference player of the year and two receiving rookie of the year honors.

While Kenyon has a history of building teams that produce results on the field, she maintains that developing her players into “whole” individuals is the focus of her coaching mentality. Kenyon holds the philosophy that the lessons she uses to develop champions on the field has also bred student-athletes who can achieve their full potential and commit to being the best they can both in and out of season.

“While we train hard and play a very rigorous schedule, it is my belief that the work ethic and discipline carry over onto all areas of our player’s lives. If they work hard on the field, they will work hard in the classroom, get the best internships and

later in their career be highly marketable. We ask our players to commit to being the best they can all the time, not just in season.”

Part of that commitment includes a year-round training program, which Kenyon believes is paramount in importance for her players. “While there are definitely periods of recovery and low impact, it is important that they main-tain some level of fitness so they aren’t beginning at baseline every summer.”

Kenyon demands that her players are committed in the classroom as well, and her expectations have not gone unnoticed. Under her watch, Kenyon’s teams have consistently maintained cumulative grade point averages of over 3.0 and have four times been recipients of the National Soccer Coaches As-sociation of America (NSCAA) Academic Team award. Under Kenyon’s watch, Senior forward Colleen Pepin made Endicott history in 2012, becoming the first player to receive NSCAA Academic All-Region status and the first Gull to be named Capital One Academic All-America, earning a First Team nod.

One of Kenyon’s keys to success is communication and cohesion, whether it is between her and her players or among the student-athletes. This is equally as important off the field as it is on it, says Kenyon, who keeps updated on her player’s classes, plans and personal lives through regular individual meet-ings. “Being direct and honest with players is important to me so they know their role. I don’t want surprises and I want them to be comfortable in their surroundings.”
