About End User ConfigurationThe chapters in this part describe how to provision and configure end users for your system.

End users are the main consumers of Cisco Unified Communications Manager features. End users can beassigned with phones and directory numbers thereby allowing your end users to make calls and communicatewith other users in the system as well as placing calls to external networks such as the PSTN.

For provisioning large numbers of end users at once, Cisco Unified Communications Manager provides thefollowing features:

    • LDAP Directory Integration—You can synchronize Cisco Unified Communications Manager with anexternal LDAP directory thereby allowing you to import end user data from the LDAP directory.

    • Bulk Administration Tool—You can use the Bulk Administration Tool to import and configure a largenumber of end users, and associated user data, from a CSV file in a single operation.

After your end users are provisioned, you can configure user settings such as user profiles that allow yourusers to provision their own phones, in addition to phone services and credential policies.

End User ConfigurationComplete the following task flows to configure end users for your system.

    Procedure

    PurposeCommand or Action

Plan the roles and access control groups for yourend users. Decide whether the system-defined

roles and access control groups have the accessprivileges that your deployment requires or ifyou need to create new roles and new accesscontrol groups.

requirements. The user profile consists ofcommon phone and phone line settings that canallow you to quickly configure new phones andphone lines for users who use this user profile. You can also enable self-provisioning for userswho use this profile.

Configure a service profile with settings forUnified Communications (UC) services. You

Service Profile Configuration Task FlowStep 4

can apply the service profile to groups of userswho have the same services requirements. Theservice profile allows you to configure UCservices for any new phones provisioned forusers who use this service profile.

Optional. Configure a feature group templateto your end users. A feature group template

Configure a Feature Group TemplateStep 5

contains a set of common feature configurationsas well as an assigned user profile and serviceprofile. For LDAP synchronized users you canassign the feature group template during theLDAP sync thereby assigning a user profile, service profile, line and device templates, andself-provisioning capability to the user.

If your deployment includes a company LDAPdirectory, you can import your end users

    LDAP Synchronization Configuration TaskFlow

    Step 6

directly from the LDAP directory into the CiscoUnified Communications Manager database.

If you are not importing end users from anLDAP directory, you can use the Bulk

    LDAP Synchronization Configuration TaskFlow

    Step 7

Administration Tool to import the end user list, and end user configurations, from a CSV fileinto the Cisco Unified CommunicationsManager database.

For details on how to use the BulkAdministration Guide to perform bulktransactions to the database, see the BulkAdministration Guide for Cisco UnifiedCommunications Manager athttp://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/unified-communications/unified-communications-manager-callmanager/products-maintenance-guides-list.html.
