Encore is a Pierce College education program designed specifically for older adults (50+), but all students over 18 are welcome. Courses address the needs of older adults focusing on topics that promote independence, advocacy, community engagement, personal growth, physical and cognitive health, economic self-sufficiency and subject matter that relates to older adults’ life circumstances and positive aging. Encore also offers free noncredit classes and fee-based classes through Community Extension.

Donations to the ENCORE Program provide for special projects, events, supplies and equipment. Checks payable to: Pierce College Foundation – Encore. Checks may be mailed to General Mailing Address (above) or use form page 2. Donations of any size are appreciated. Thank you for your support!

Special Services: Students with disabilities can contact Special Services. Authorization, based on verification of disability, is required before accommodation can be made. Special Services is located in the Student Services Building. For questions, call (818) 719-6430.

Parking Permits Purchase at Business Office 1. $20 - Cash Only2. Picture ID3. You must be currently enrolled in a Fall 2017class.

Purchase Online Use the Student Portal to pay with a credit card or a check. Permits need to be picked up at the Business Office.There is no mail-in / mail-out facility.

General Parking Information

Visit or call the Business Office regarding parking permits at (818) 719-6432.

Parking Permits are required starting the third week of the semester.

Permits must be displayed clearly from rear view mirror.

Parking Permit Refunds: All refunds must be claimed in person at the Business Office by presenting parking permit and receipt. Check with the Business Office for the parking permit refund deadline.

Lost/stolen permits: The Business Office may sell you a new permit depending on availability.

A $10 returned check charge is assessed for a check returned to the Business Office unpaid, and a hold is placed on the student's record.

One day/30 Minute Parking Permits Available from pay validation machines. Machines accept cash or credit cards but do not give change.

$3 one-day permits are available in Lots 1, 6,7, & 8 and can be used in any parking lot oncampus.

$1 - 30 minute parking permit is available inLot 1 and only for use in spaces marked 30minutes inLot 1.

Students are encouraged to check their email regularly for class cancellations, changes and announcements.

Log-in to LACCD Email: 1. Go to piercecollege.edu2. Click on “Student ”, then click on “Student

Email”.

To FORWARD LACCD email to your Personal email: 1. Log in to your LACCD email, see above2. Click on the wheel located on the top right

Student ID Card

It is important that students carry their Student ID Number with them at all times. A Student ID Card is a convenient way to carry your Student ID Number.

Where to Get a Student ID Card: CopyTech, located in the College Services Building, behind the Brahma Cafe (see map inside back cover).

Students need to provide: 1. Student ID number. Call the Encore office if

you do not know your Student ID number.2. Proof of current enrollment. Students can

download their schedule at CopyTech ORbring a print-out of their schedule.

New & Former Students New Students are those who have never attended Pierce College or any LACCD campus. Former (Returning) Students are those who have previously attended Pierce College or any LACCD campus but did NOT enroll in the previous year.

Complete online application: Call Encore at 818.710.2561 to make an appointment to submit an online application in the Encore office or come to the Encore Office M-F, 8-4:30 pm.

Applications can also be done from home: 1. Go to www.piercecollege.edu2. Top right corner click Apply Online3. Bottom of page, Click Here to Begin Application4. Click Create an Account and follow prompts to

create a username and password. Write them down.Note - SSN#: If you do not wish to provide yourSSN#, go to bottom of page and click boxindicating you do not wish to use your SSN#.Click Continue

5. Click Start A New Application6. Read the introduction. Click Start Application7. Answer ALL questions. Click submit.

Registration Procedures

How to Register for Classes 1. Go to: piercecollege.edu2. Click Class Registration. Click Fall 2017. Log in (Note your student ID is your user name).3. Click ‘Enrollment Shopping Cart’4. Select Fall 2017. Click continue.5. Type in the 5 digit Class number in the ‘Enter class number’ box.6. Click 'Enter' (You may check the 'Waitlist' box to be added to the waiting list.)7. Click 'Next'. If you would like to add an additional class, repeat step 5-7.8. Scroll down to and click ‘Proceed to step 2 of 3’.9. In 'Select' column, check box next to each class and click ‘Enroll’.

After semester starts 1. Important: Bring your Student ID Number to class.2. If space is available, the instructor will give you a Permission Number that you use to add the class through the

Student Portal. Follow steps 1-4 of ‘How to register for classes’ above; empty the shopping cart if it has any classes. Continue with steps 5 & 6. When prompted, enter Permission Number and proceed with steps 7-9.

Class# 15855 1:45-4:45pm W Thornton, John Paul Room: Art 3312 Life Drawing: Previous drawing knowledge/skill suggested. Working from the live model or guided exercises, students will learn advanced ways to express the human form.

Via lecture, demonstration hands on experience and critique, we will explore the quality and character of line. Basic/intermediate drawing skill recommended. Materi-als needed will be discussed at first meeting.

First meeting will be lecture.

Watercolor: The Next Step This class is designed for the intermediate watercolor student who possesses basic skills and is ready to move on to more challenging assignments. The instructor will provide step-by-step instruction and demonstration in the process of creating paintings from photographs (provided through email). Students will work at their own levels, bringing their own style to their work. Because instruction is provided in a sequential manner, it is suggested that students try to attend each class. Bring your watercolor materials to the first class.

A materials list and instructions for the first project will be emailed to students approximately one week before class starts.

Instructor: Sharon Maguire teaches beginning and intermediate watercolor classes through Pierce College Encore Extension. She believes that everyone should experience the wonderful personal benefits that can come from creating art.

8 Tuesdays Sept. 26 - Nov. 14 1-3 pm $64

Mindful Drawing Learn the principles and techniques for creating small but intriguing works of art by combining simple patterns. You will soon feel yourself relaxing and focusing more as you produce an intricate mini-masterpiece. No previous art experience is necessary. Please bring the following to the first class: Plain white paper (copy paper, multi-media paper, or drawing paper—whatever you have), a #2 pencil, a fine-tipped black pen such as a Micron .01 or .02, a white or kneaded eraser, a q-tip, a scissors, a quart-sized plastic zip bag, and a ruler.

Instuctor: Sharon Maguire teaches beginning and intermediate watercolor classes through Pierce College Encore Extension. She incorporates mindful drawing into her artwork, finding that it benefits her mind as well as her art.
