A global leader in engineering, Cleveland Bridge UK has an impressive track record in providing modular bridges.

Our modular bridges, made to British quality standards using proven technology, unite remote communities and open new routes for trade and commerce.

Equally important, our bridges have brought urgent help when disasters have destroyed existing links and have made significant impact in speeding the flow of food and medical supplies to stricken areas.

We have built in excess of 1,000 modular bridges in Sri Lanka and the Philippines alone, in the most challenging of locations. Throughout the developing world, our experience extends from design, manufacturing and installation, to support with arranging finance for major projects, undertaking environmental assessments and providing a multitude of related services and accessories.

Cleveland Bridge UK have been developing expertise and credentials in steelwork design and construction for almost 150 years. From the Sydney Harbour Bridge, to the Canary Wharf towers in London, to a rural bridge programme in the Far East, there is an abundance of evidence to showcase our considerable expertise.

All our bridges are fabricated to the highest quality in galvanised steel, for a long life with minimum maintenance and a range of decking surfaces is available to suit a variety of end uses.

Sections of modular bridge can be swiftly transported through challenging terrain and easily and rapidly erected without the need for heavy or complex lifting equipment.

We are flexible in terms of our approach and can confidently deliver a turnkey solution or can supply a range of specific services if more appropriate.

On site, we forge partnerships with the community to involve local people in many different aspects of our work. From the provision of bridge decking materials to the construction of abutments and other structural aspects, we aim to engage local workers and businesses in the completion of every project. This collaborative approach helps to create much-needed training, education and employment opportunities and to develop new transferable skills, which leave a lasting positive impact.

Our modular bridge operation is designed for speed of turnaround even in the most remote locations. Precision planning and highly organised logistics mean that we can work to the tightest timescales, from initial order to final installation and fully operational bridge. Our skilled and experienced project managers also ensure that environmental implications are fully considered from the outset.

Bespoke bridgesCustomised to suit specific needs - where a modular approach is not the right one, an individual design can offer the best solution, whatever the requirements or location. Where volumes are significant, there are opportunities for economies of scale.

Temporary bridgesFor disaster relief and other emergencies - for rapid installation where urgent links are required, reuniting physically divided communities using a tried and trusted design.

For longer spans (truss bridges)Single or double lane with walkways - for spans greater than 30 metres in areas of higher traffic volume. Longer stretches of visible steelwork provide additional strength to support substantial loads.

For shorter spans (beam bridges)These are available in options to suit different situations:

Single lane with walkways - most suitable for spans less than 30 metres in rural areas and for crossings with relatively low traffic volumes.

Double lane with walkways - most suitable for spans less than 30 metres in urban areas and crossings with high traffic volumes.

Quality manufactureWe enforce a rigorous commitment to quality processes at all stages of design and fabrication. This includes all the most relevant and recognised standards - such as ISO accreditation, Quality Assurance, Lean, FPC and EXC 4.

Skilled fabricationBuilt to British standards by a skilled workforce with a 150+ year heritage of steelwork and bridge building experience.

Health and safetyAccredited to the highest internationally-recognised standards, we ensure that health and safety is a priority throughout our business and operations. This includes strict observation to Health and Safety and environmental regulations.

Accuracy of BIM / TEKLA 3D modelling Proven modular designs by our in-house team of highly qualified consultants, with engineering designs and detailing based on full BIM / TEKLA 3D modelling.

Value engineeringWorking closely with clients from the earliest stages of their project, we gain a greater understanding of their objectives so we are able to offer more cost-effective outcomes, including the use of local labour and materials.

Experienced installationSkilled project managers, experienced in working with local labour across the world. Capability to work simultaneously across multiple sites, to direct and support local workforce.

We work with the governments of many countries to help secure funding from the World Bank, export agencies such as UK Export Finance (ECGD) and other similar institutions. This critical financial support enables the construction of major projects throughout the developing world.

We see our bridges as more than just physical structures. For many communities, they create a link to the outside world, opening up vital routes for the provision of food, medical supplies and trade. Spanning what were once insurmountable barriers - or replacing inadequate crossings - these bridges create opportunities for the development of commerce and access to infrastructure. In rural areas, they are often instrumental in enabling access to education, employment and health care.

At times of conflict or natural disaster, our bridges bring access to aid and crucial support service for the entire community, particularly those who are more vulnerable.

One of the first challenges for our on-site specialists is to conduct a thorough environmental survey, evaluating and prioritising all environmental considerations which are identified and ensuring that they are incorporated into the project plan. We are vigilant about leaving a minimal footprint from our activity, by working to the strictest international standards which are regularly audited for compliance.
