    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Title: Research Assistant

    Grade: Academic & Research Job Family, Level A

    Reporting to: Dr Bikash C. Pal

    Key Working Relationships: Academic & Research, and Technician Staff inElectrical and Electronic Engineering,

    Summary of the post:

    To conduct research into Stability and Performance of Photovoltaics (STAPP)Towrite project reports, academic papers and attend conferences relating to thisresearch. To participate in the Control and Power Groups activities (seminars etc.),and offer assistance as appropriate.

    Key Responsibilities:

    The post requires:

    To plan and carry out research in accordance with the project aims, incollaboration with members of the Control and Power Group.

    To generate and display results and interpret their physical implications.

    To write progress reports and prepare results for publication anddissemination via presentations and the world wide web.

    To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings.

    To collaborate with and provide assistance and guidance to staff/students.

    To present research findings to colleagues and at conferences.

    To attend relevant workshops and conferences as necessary.

    Light teaching duties, which will include assistance with the supervisionof undergraduate and MSc projects.

    To comply with relevant College policies, including Financial Regulations,Equal Opportunities Policy, Promoting Race Equality Policy, Health andSafety Policy, Information Systems Security Policy and Intellectual PropertyRights and Register of Interests Policies.

    To undertake any necessary training and/or development.

    Any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as directed by linemanager / supervisor.

    PERSON SPECIFICATION

    Applicants are required to have a background and demonstrate an interest in thefollowing areas or have backgrounds indicating they can acquire such skills:

    Experience:

    Modelling of power systems and power electronic converter systems

    Modal analysis of dynamical systems

    Simulation in Matlab/Simulink

    Skills/Abilities:

    Modelling in Simulink

    Modal Analysis in Matlab

    Use of Matlab SimPowerSystems/PSCAD

    Ability to exercise initiative

    Ability to communicate effectively

    Oral presentation

    Qualifications:

    An MSc or MEngEng (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, orrelevant research/industrial experience in modelling and analysis of powersystems.

    Candidates with a BEng (or equivalent), with exceptional background andproven ability in the above areas will also be considered.
