Important! In the event of accidentaldefrosting, for example due to a power failure, ifthe power has been off for longer that the valueshown in the technical characteristics chartunder "rising time", the defrosted food must beconsumed quickly or cooked immediately andthen re-frozen (after cooling).

Freezing fresh foodThe freezer compartment is suitable for freezingfresh food and storing frozen and deep-frozenfood for a long time.To freeze fresh food activate the Quick Chillfunction at least 24 hours before placing thefood to be frozen in the freezer compartment.Place the fresh food to be frozen in the bottomcompartment.The maximum amount of food that can be frozenin 24 hours is specified on the rating plate, a la-bel located on the inside of the fridge.The freezing process lasts 24 hours: during thisperiod do not add other food to be frozen.After 24 hours, when the freezing process iscompleted, deactivate the Quick Chill function(see "Quick Chill function").

Helpful hints and tips

Normal Operating Sounds• You may hear a faint gurgling and a bubbling

sound when the refrigerant is pumpedthrough the coils or tubing. This is correct.

• When the compressor is on, the refrigerant isbeing pumped around and you will hear awhirring sound and a pulsating noise from thecompressor. This is correct.

• The thermic dilatation might cause a suddencracking noise. It is natural, not dangerousphysical phenomenon. This is correct.

• When the compressor switches on orswitches off, you will hear a faint "click" of thetemperature regulator. This is correct.

Hints for energy saving• Do not open the door frequently or leave it

open longer than absolutely necessary.• If the ambient temperature is high and the

Temperature Regulator is set to low tempera-ture and the appliance is fully loaded, thecompressor may run continuously, causingfrost or ice on the evaporator. If this happens,set the Temperature Regulator toward warm-er settings to allow automatic defrosting andso a saving in electricity consumption.

Hints for fresh food refrigerationTo obtain the best performance:• do not store warm food or evaporating liquids

in the refrigerator• do cover or wrap the food, particularly if it has

a strong flavour• position food so that air can circulate freely

around it

Hints for refrigerationUseful hints:Meat (all types) : wrap in polythene bags andplace on the glass shelf above the vegetabledrawer.For safety, store in this way only one or twodays at the most.Cooked foods, cold dishes, etc..: these shouldbe covered and may be placed on any shelf.Fruit and vegetables: these should be thorough-ly cleaned and placed in the special drawer(s)provided.Butter and cheese: these should be placed inspecial airtight containers or wrapped in alumi-nium foil or polythene bags to exclude as muchair as possible.Bottles: these should have a cap and should bestored either on the bottle rack or the door bot-tle shelf.Bananas, potatoes, onions and garlic, if notpacked, must not be kept in the refrigerator.

Hints for freezingTo help you make the most of the freezing proc-ess, here are some important hints:• the maximum quantity of food which can be

frozen in 24 hrs. is shown on the rating plate;• the freezing process takes 24 hours. No fur-

ther food to be frozen should be added dur-ing this period;

• only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughlycleaned, foodstuffs;

• prepare food in small portions to enable it tobe rapidly and completely frozen and to makeit possible subsequently to thaw only thequantity required;

• wrap up the food in aluminium foil or poly-thene and make sure that the packages areairtight;

• do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touchfood which is already frozen, thus avoiding arise in temperature of the latter;

• lean foods store better and longer than fattyones; salt reduces the storage life of food;

• water ices, if consumed immediately after re-moval from the freezer compartment, canpossibly cause the skin to be freeze burnt;

• it is advisable to show the freezing in date oneach individual pack to enable you to keeptab of the storage time.

Hints for storage of frozen foodTo obtain the best performance from this appli-ance, you should:

• make sure that the commercially frozen food-stuffs were adequately stored by the retailer;

• be sure that frozen foodstuffs are transferredfrom the foodstore to the freezer in the short-est possible time;

• not open the door frequently or leave it openlonger than absolutely necessary;

• once defrosted, food deteriorates rapidly andcannot be refrozen;

• do not exceed the storage period indicatedby the food manufacturer.

Care and cleaning

Periodic cleaningThe equipment has to be cleaned regularly:• clean the inside and accessories with luke-

warm water and some neutral soap.• regularly check the door seals and wipe clean

to ensure they are clean and free from debris.• rinse and dry thoroughly.

Important! Do not pull, move or damage anypipes and/or cables inside the cabinet.Never use detergents, abrasive powders, highlyperfumed cleaning products or wax polishes toclean the interior as this will damage the surfaceand leave a strong odour.

Clean the compressor at the back of the appli-ance with a brush. This operation will improvethe performance of the appliance and saveelectricity consumption.

Important! Take care of not to damage thecooling system.

Many proprietary kitchen surface cleaners con-tain chemicals that can attack/damage the plas-tics used in this appliance. For this reason it isrecommended that the outer casing of this ap-pliance is only cleaned with warm water with alittle washing-up liquid added.After cleaning, reconnect the equipment to themains supply.

Defrosting the refrigeratorFrost is automatically eliminated from the evapo-rator of the refrigerator compartment every timethe motor compressor stops, during normal use.The defrost water drains out through a drainhole into a special container at the back of theappliance, over the motor compressor, where itevaporates.

It is important to peri-odically clean the de-frost water drain holein the middle of therefrigerator compart-ment channel to pre-vent the water over-flowing and drippingonto the food inside.

Defrosting of the freezerThe freezer compartment of this model, on theother hand, is a "no frost" type. This means thatthere is no buildup of frost when it is in opera-tion, neither on the internal walls nor on thefoods.The absence of frost is due to the continuouscirculation of cold air inside the compartment,driven by an automatically controlled fan.
