For decades, the destruction of Data Carriers was governed by

the standard DIN 32757-1:1995-01, which applied exclusively

to paper. With the rapid spread of digital Data Carriers and

growing demands for information security, a revision became

necessary. The new DIN 66399 takes full account of the current

situation, and will supersede the old data protection standard

DIN 32757.

From conventional file shredding to the destruction of

state-of-the-art data carriers, the intimus® product range has

solutions for all

DIN 66399 is structured as follows...

Part 1: Principles and Definitions

This part defines the relevant terms and specifies the protection

categories and security levels.

Part 2: Requirements for Equipment for Destruction of Data

Carriers

This part sets out the requirements for equipment used for the

safe destruction of Data Carriers.

Large-scale shredders 80 – 500 kg: High-throughput shredders

For decades, the intimus® heavy duty shredders have

proven to be centrally positioned pieces of equipment for the

privacy-friendly disposal of disused media. The model range

offers variations that can handle up to 550 sheets/h or even

complete folders in a single operation. The spacious feed

table with integrated infeed conveyor belt provides controlled,

effortless, safe and fast loading. The shredded material is

collected in large-scale, mobile or swing-out containers under

the cutting mechanism. The shred-press combinations are

coupled to a baler for immediate fully automatic compaction of

the cut material into compact bales. Reduction effect compared

to the loose collection of the cuttings is about 70%.

The destruction of even large volumes of documents and storage media within the company itself offers significant benefits and guarantees compliance with its own standards for a privacy-friendly business management.

25

Data carrier shredders: Universal shredding of various storage media

Various materials such as CD, DVD, Video or magnetic tapes as

well as all kinds of plastics or tin are destroyed for reasons of

authentication or security in our intimus VZ Special shredders.

Three standard models with optional extras are available as

modular system to build almost any customised application,

which will incorporate a cost-efficient and safe solution with

top performance.

Disintegrators

The higher the security requirements for the data-comminution,

the smaller the particles the material must be shredded into.

With conventional shredder technology, this means that the

cutting shafts become more and more delicate and thus are

also more prone to damage and wear. The disintegrators

meet the current trend to higher security requirements for

industrial users and the demand for the highest security for

governmental locations and banknote printing works at high

throughput rates.

Based on proven technology, the intimus disintegrators were

perfectly adapted for the reliable and economical shredding

of paper and plastics in the form of paper documents, printed

valuables such as banknotes or passports, magnetic media

such as CDs or DVDs.

Industrial Systems / VZ

33

Stage 1: Pre-shredding

Thick bundles of paper are processed just as

easily as filled ring binders

Rough pre-shredding of material is

accomplished by means of abrasion-resistant

cutting cylinders made of hardened tool steel

Ideal preparation of material to be shredded

for subsequent processing steps

Low-maintenance cutting system consisting

of individually interchangeable cutters and

scraper blades, which can be repeatedly

re-ground

Integrated conveyor belt

Covered transport from pre-shredding to the

security cutting system

A metering screw prevents paper jam and

assures problem-free operation

Overfill protection is provided by means of a

limit switch

VZM series:

With integrated magnetic separator

No time-consuming removal of metal parts

before shredding – the magnetic separator

automatically removes the ferromagnetic parts

which are typically included in ring binders

and hanging file folders

Protects the security shredder from excessive

wear due to metal parts

Metal parts are collected separately in a

mobile receptacle

Extremely easy operation

All operating functions are controlled electroni-

cally after the start button has been activated

Clearly laid out control panel

Fully automated control via micro-computer

with automatic shutdown when in idle

operation

Auto-reverse with automatic re-start in the

event of overload

All parameters can be individually set during

installation

Stage 2: Security shredder

Precision cutting cylinders made of special

hardened steel with metering device assure

high through-put volumes with minimal wear

and low energy consumption

During security shredding, materials are

reduced to particle sizes in accordance with

security level 2 or 3 (depending on selected

cutting system) per DIN 66399. A certificate

will be enclosed with the machine.

Overfill inhibited by means of limit switch

Outstanding ease of maintenance

All relevant covers included on the machine

are equipped with quick release fasteners

Access is thus quick and easy for cleaning,

repair and maintenance
