Synopsis

of sinister former secret police investigators to expose the protagonist.

Meanwhile, Ciprian's fantasies of an Afghan Reality Show (in the form of an

elaborate Bollywood musical) get the attention of two undercover C.I.A.

agents who have mistaken his dances as ritualized Al Qaeda code. The

American agents devise a plan to abduct Ciprian for links with terrorism.

THE EGLOUVI PLATEAU (Το Οροπέδιο της Εγκλοσβής)

Synopsis

The eighty inhabitants of Eglouvi, Lefkada’s most mountainous village,

cultivate an organic crop in their fields on the Vouni Plateau, at an

altitude of 1000 meters. This is the renowned Eglouvi lentil, considered

the best lentil in the world. The Vouni Plateau contains the unique,

ancient settlement of Volti, with its stone houses and threshing

floors. The Eglouvi lentil is preserved with the other seeds at the

International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Regions (ICARDA)

in Syria, with the code number ILL 293. After the New Year, the

women of Eglouvi with their traditional dresses sow their lentil seeds,

“with the pagan spirits,” as they say. They then leave the seeds to

sleep under the snow. When spring comes, the women return and

skillfully weed them. In the summer when the lentils mature, the

women uproot them by hand and bring them to the threshing floor,

keeping the seeds next year’s sowing. The women are fewer each

year. The Volti settlement is crumbling. This Plateau must be protected

for its unique natural beauty, architecture and human activity.

Synopsis

The Uskoks were Croatian Habsburg soldiers that inhabited the

areas of the eastern Adriatic and the surrounding territories during

the Ottoman wars in Europe. Bands of Uskoks fought a fairly

successful guerrilla war against the Ottomans, and they formed

small units and rowed swift boats. Since the uskoks were checked

on land and were rarely paid their annual subsidy, they resorted to

acts of piracy.The exploits of the Uskoks contributed to a renewal

of war between Venice and the Ottoman Empire. At the Battle of

Lepanto a Dalmatian squadron assisted the allied fleets of Spain,

Venice, Austria and Papal States to crush Ottoman navy.
