camp Locations BRYN-Y-GROES: In the heart of ‘Welsh Wales’ is Bryn-y-groes in Bala. Bryn-y-groes has a tennis court, spacious grounds, playing field as well as a smashing new sports hall complete with table tennis and pool tables. It is just a few minutes walk from the local leisure centre and Bala’s famous lake and mountains – perfect for sailing, kayaking, canoeing and other activities.

PENTRENANT HALL: This beautiful centre in the heart of the Welsh hills looks more like a stately home than a camp venue (very posh!). It is near Newtown and there is always a great atmosphere. The spacious site is full of things to do including swimming in the pool, table tennis, snooker, football and much more besides.

TAL-Y-BONT AND DYFFRYN ARDUDWY: The two outdoor sites at Dyffryn Ardudwy and Tal-y-bont are on Wales’ beautiful west coast. Both have indoor cooking and dining facilities, and there are hot showers guaranteed in the shower block – this is ‘outdoor’ camping in real luxury! Accommodation is in large ridge tents. Both sites are close to beaches, mountains and some great outdoor activities.

NEWTOWN (new this year!): Newtown Evangelical Church, surrounded by the stunning rolling hills of Mid-Wales, is a modern, spacious church venue complete with table tennis, pool tables and football/archery field. The church is a brief gentle stroll away from the local leisure centre where campers can have a regular swim (and proper wash!). This may be budget on accommodation but it includes all the usual games, outdoor pursuits and trips!

ST MADOC: This stunning camp centre - found in Llanmadoc on Swansea's Gower - is set in breathtakingly beautiful coastland on a mile of secluded beach. In addition to playing pool, table tennis and football. There is no need to hire a coach to get to the beach, you can walk there in seconds!

WOODCROFT: In the South is Woodcroft Christian Centre that stands in its own grounds of around four acres between the Wye Valley and the Severn, about two miles from Chepstow. In addition to the beautiful views you can enjoy a game of pool, the BBQ area, table tennis, football and you may catch a glimpse of the famous peacock that visits from time to time.

FOR PARENTSWe’re delighted you’ve picked up this brochure - or been given it by your enthusiastic child - and expect you probably have a few questions. So here are answers to some of the more frequently asked questions.

What is the EMW and who runs the camps?

The Evangelical Movement of Wales (EMW) is a registered charity, and has been running Christian camps for more than fifty-five years. All staff are Christian volunteers who are interviewed, CRB checked and further assessed for their suitability for serving on camp through references from their church leaders. All staff are trained in child protection and follow the EMW safeguarding policy (available on request). Every camp team also includes a trained first aider to ensure your child is as safe as possible.

What is the staff/camper ratio and how will my child be looked after throughout the week?

The staff/camper ratio averages just over 1:3. Each camper is placed in a tent or dorm with other campers (even the quietest campers quickly make friends). One or more members of staff will be assigned responsibility for the pastoral care of each tent/dorm and be available to those campers throughout the week to ensure that everyone in the group is getting the most out of camp. The camp leadership team and the chaplain will also help oversee pastoral care of campers.

What happens on camp?

Every camp has a wide-range of activities that should please every

camper. Sports, arts and craft, adventure activities, wacky games, gorge walking, trips to the beach, team-building games, table-tennis and swimming are just a few of the activities that leaders will consider when drawing up the programme (licensed activity providers are used whenever required by the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority). Evenings are often given over to home-grown entertainment, with plenty of time for laughs together over a cup of hot chocolate. Time is also set aside for campers to hear from and study the Bible to find out more about Jesus. All this helps to make EMW camps something special for everyone and the reason why so many youngsters come back year after year.

What will happen each day?

There is no such thing as a typical day on camp! But just to give youa flavour, one day might look a bit like this (take a deep breath): plenty of good food, tournaments, sports, games, chilling out, crafts (such as a glass-painting and T-shirt design), Bible talks specifically for the age group, a trip to the beach or theme-park (or maybe something more challenging like canoeing, sailing, gorge walking, rock climbing or archery), some wacky games, Bible study with tent/dorm group, hilarious evening entertainment, camp news, hot chocolate, late night super-quick talk and then...a well-earned sleep…One day down, six more to go! More than likely, every day will be a whopping combination of these kinds of activities! It’s no wonder campers and staff go home tired but happy!
