How we remember Easter while growing up as children:

The clothes…Many people remember Easter from their childhood as a time when everyone wore fancy clothes to church. Children had new white shoes and pretty hats. Some girls even wore white gloves. Moms and dads had a flower on their suits or dresses. Excitement was in the air!

The Easter eggs and candy…After the morning service all the children participated in an Easter egg hunt. There would be lots of beautifully colored hard boiled eggs, jelly beans inside plastic eggs, hard candy coated marshmallow eggs, and a very special large chocolate covered candy egg.

The beautiful baskets…Some children even had beautiful Easter baskets filled with lots of candy.

For many people, Easter marks the coming of spring. Pastel

colors are everywhere. Flowers are blooming and the air is much warmer than a few weeks earlier. It is such a happy time! But is there more to Easter?

What is Easter really about? At this time of year many people around the world celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Those who are followers of Christ understand that Easter is about the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. But why did Christ have to die?

The BiBle SayS…For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). No matter how good or religious people are, they cannot meet God’s standard of righteousness. This is why God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins and bring us to God. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

The BiBle SayS…On the first day of the week…the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. Then suddenly two angels appeared and said to them, Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he is risen (Luke 24:1–6). So, Easter isn’t at all about Easter baskets full of candy, pretty clothes, or beautiful spring flowers. It’s about an empty tomb and the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
