From hope and a dream, to the reality of running a non-profit ministry, New Beginnings has continued to grow over the last 9 years. We now own and operate two transitional houses that can accommodate up to 26 people at once, 8 affordable housing units available for families, veterans, single men and moms with children, 35 staff members, over 1,000 volunteers annually and 3 thrift stores that gave away over $40,000 worth of donated clothing and household items yearly to their communities. Recently we have taken two men and a woman out of the woods in Winter Garden and brought them into our transitional housing program. Two of the three people have already completed Phase 1 of the program and are moving on to Phase 2. Back in 2014, the Executive Director of Homeless Services Network of Central Florida asked New Beginnings to expand our successful Residential Program into West Orange County. The demand for homeless services was more than the current agencies could support. "The real need is jobs, housing and direction to help people get off the street and into a self-supporting life. That is the mission of New Beginnings," says Tim Grosshans, Senior Pastor of First Baptist of Winter Garden. $19-million-dollar grant from the state of Florida to build nearly 100 affordable apartments locally." With the need for services in the community growing, we are excited to announce the opening of our Drop-In Center located in our Winter Garden Thrift Store. The Drop-In Center’s grand opening is on September 1, 2016 and will be open Wednesday through Friday. We will provide screening for our transitional housing program, as well as assistance and referrals for housing, job and life skills. “It is wonderful to see New Beginnings growing so that it can support the needs of the homeless in our community,” says Amanda Maggard, Administrator at Florida Hospital Winter Garden. Through continued prayer and support of caring individuals, we will continue to grow and be successful in our mission to transform lives. By partnering with local churches, businesses and organizations we will be able to provide services to the community, and hope where hope has been lost.

health. Cindy has over 20 years of experience working with populations in poverty and she is excited to offer her skills through New Beginnings. Services that will be offered at our West Orange Drop-In Center include case management and evaluation, benevolence, job and life skills training, emergency food assistance, resources, and intake screening for our transitional housing program. More than a list of services, our new Drop-In Center will offer relationship and hope. “We help folks from the lowest point [of their life] and stay with them all the way through to true self-sufficiency,” says Cindy. “I like that we carry them all the way through to completion.”

Over the past couple of months, several New Beginnings staff members and volunteers went into the woods in Winter Garden to care for the homeless. Each time they visit, a hot meal is brought along with some basic necessities . But it is much more than taking some food and hygiene supplies into the woods. This is about building relationships. “Just feeding them and listening to them is enough,” says Kara Dewberry, Area Manager for the 3 New Beginnings Thrift Stores. Two of our regular volunteers, Robert and Corrine, serve at the Winter Garden Thrift Store and are homeless themselves,

Recently Donna Dewberry lent her talent to New Beginnings when she brightened the walls of our new West Orange Drop-In Center, located at our Winter Garden Thrift Store. "The sunflower moves itself in the most direct position in front of the sun so it can get the maximum sun rays," writes Donna. "This is symbolic of spiritual faith and worship."

One 30-year old man living in the woods off-and-on for years started volunteering at the thrift store when the manager, Graydon Smith, told him about New Beginnings’ residential program. He entered

transitional housing on April 13 and now has a job. “I had a bed in my tent, but the bed in the house is more comfortable. Plus a shower,” he says, “and no mosquitoes. I’m thankful for New Beginnings.”
