About the Posion The County of Yuba is currently recruing for the posion of Deputy Sheriff Trainee. The Deputy Sheriff Trainee is a recruing and training level classificaon established to qualify candidates for dues as a Deputy Sheriff in the Yuba County Sheriffs Department. Incumbents must undergo a formal and comprehensive training program in a California P.O.S.T. cerfied academy. This posion reports directly to the designated California P.O.S.T. cerfied academy with supervision provided by a Sheriffs Sergeant (Operaons). Posions in this class are disnguished from Deputy Sheriff in that the former class is a non- sworn class, which has no peace officer powers. Upon sasfactory compleon of the training and graduaon from the academy, the trainee will be promoted to the level of Deputy Sheriff. Failure to successfully complete training as prescribed and therein graduaon from the academy will result in terminaon. Incumbents. About the Sheriffs Department The Yuba County Sheriff's Office is comprised of mulple funcons within the Operaons Division including Valley and Foothill Patrol, Invesgaons, Narcocs Task Force, Gang Enforcement, Marijuana Eradicaon Team, Coroner, Crime Prevenon, Crisis Negoaon Team, SWAT, Canine Program, Field Training Officer, Aero Squadron, and Marine Enforcement. The department is commied to working in partnership with the community to idenfy and resolve public safety and quality of live issues, consistent with its core values. The Sheriff's Office provides a full range of services to an esmated populaon of about 70,000. The Sheriffs Department is located in the City of Marysville with a substaon in Brownsville. Qualificaons Trainee Minimum: Graduaon from high school and currently enrolled in a California P.O.S.T. Basic or Modular Academy. Work Environment: Primarily consist of a classroom environment including physical training and related arrest techniques both indoors and outdoors. Emergency vehicle operaon and firearms training at firing range. Special Requirements: Must be willing to work off- hours, weekends, holiday shiſts and may be called-out in emergency situaons. Minimally qualified applicants are required to submit a background packet (Personal History Statement) upon request to the Sheriffs Department for pre-review. Must meet the State of California requirements for peace officer status (830.1 CA Penal Code) including, passing a detailed background invesgaon with a fingerprint check, no felony convicons, passing a medical exam and psychological exam. Incumbents must undergo a formal and comprehensive training program in a California P.O.S.T. certified academy. This position reports directly to the designated California P.O.S.T. certified academy with supervision provided by a Sheriff’s Sergeant (Operations). Positions in this class are distinguished from Deputy Sheriff in that the former class is a non-sworn class, which has no peace officer powers. Upon satisfactory completion of the training and graduation from the academy, the trainee will be promoted to the level of Deputy Sheriff. Failure to successfully complete training as prescribed and therein graduation from the academy will result in termination. Incumbents. May be required to perform other non-sworn peace officer duties as directed.
