The County of Yuba is looking for law school graduates, graduates pending California Bar Exam results or licensed attorneys who want to make a difference in the world by becoming prosecutors. The County is currently recruiting for the flexibly staffed position of Deputy District Attorney I/II. Under direction, the incumbent performs professional legal services in the preparation and prosecution of a variety of criminal and/or civil matters as assigned by the District Attorney. This is a deep class, in which placement is normally determined by two requirements: level of experience and the complexity of the work assigned. Positions at the I and II levels are flexibly staffed, with incumbents beginning in a learning capacity, performing the more standard legal analysis and prosecution. The work may be related to any of a number of specialty legal areas. Involvement in formal litigation, discretionary powers and direction of the work of others will increase as incumbents gain experience and expertise. Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will be a person of integrity with a passion for jusce, a love of mercy, and an atude of humility. Prosecutors fill a unique role in the United States because their primary responsibility in the courtroom is not to win, but to ascertain the truth and seek jusce. Prosecutors exercise tremendous discreon in wielding the sovereign power of the state to protect the community by prosecung crimes, supporng vicms, providing for the rehabilitaon and/or incarceraon of the guilty, and honoring the constuonal rights of the accused. Required Qualificaons: Deputy District Aorney I Minimum: Equivalent to graduaon from an accredited law school and successful compleon of the State Bar examinaon. No experience is required. (NOTE; For Deputy District Aorney I, law school graduates who have taken the California Bar Exam and not yet received their results, may parcipate in a recruitment/examinaon process). Preferred: In addion to the minimum requirements for Deputy District Aorney I, some experience in the following order of preference: experience in the pracce of criminal law to include the presentaon of evidence or witness tesmony in a contested hearing or trial; OR law school internship or law clerk experience in an Office of the District Aorney, Aorney General or United States Aorney; OR judicial clerkship experience. Deputy District Aorney II Minimum: Equivalent to graduaon from an accredited law school, successful compleon of the State Bar examinaon, and one year of professional experience as an aorney in the pracce of criminal law. Preferred: In addion to the minimum requirements for Deputy District Aorney II, direct experience as an aorney in the pracce of criminal law in a prosecuon capacity in a public agency seng and/or related experience in a law school criminal internship in an Office of a District Aorney, Aorney General, or United States Aorney. Special Requirements: Be a member in good standing of the California State Bar Associaon at all levels. Aend meengs outside of normal working hours.
