Exceptions For employment certificates and permits

Exceptions include:

• Golf caddy, who is at least 14 years old

• Babysitter, who is at least 14 years old

• Farm hand 16 or 17 years old

• Minors 12 and under working for their parents farm, or other outdoor work not connected with a business.

No power driven machinery used:

• No certificate if work is causal Certificate is required if work is regular.

Power driven machinery is used:

• Certificate required whether or not work is casual

Types of Employment certificates and permits

• Non-factory employment certificate (AT-18, blue paper) for 14 or 15 year olds.

• General EMPLOYMENT CERTIFICATE (at-19 green paper) For 16 or 17 year olds attending school. Not valid for hazardous employment opportunities.

Types of Employment certificates and permits

• Full time employment certificate (AT-20) salmon paper) for 16 or 17 year olds who is not attending school, or leaving for full time employment.

Permits

• Farm work permits (At -24 yellow paper)– Minors 14 and 15 years of age– Must be signed by employer

• Harvest of berries (AT-25 white paper)– Minors 12 and 13 years of age

• Newspaper carrier permits (AT-23 Buff paper)– Minors 11 to 18 years of age– However a 14 year age minimum is required for

delivery of periodicals, and similar items.

Permits

• Street Trade permits ( AT-26 Ivory Paper)– Self employed boys and girls 14 to 18 years old who

sell newspapers or periodicals on streets or in public places, also shoe shiners.

• Child Model Permits (AT-12 Green paper)– Under 18 years old (see spec. occupations – Child

performers)

• Performer permits – Issued by chief executive of the municipality in the

performance place.– (see special occupations-child performers)

Obtaining Employment Certificates and permits

• How to obtain certificates:– Paperwork required:

• Written permission from a parent to work• Proof of age, birth certificate, or other

documentation at least two years old• Certificate of physical fitness• Doctors note of be physically fit• Parent must obtain a full time employment

certificate, and appear in person

Location of certificates

• The employer Must keep:– Non factory– Student general– Full time employment certificates

Temporary placement agencies– Short term employment– Keep file in its office, and provide copies at

the establishment where minor works.
