APPRENTICESHIPS

10 THINGS YOU NEED TO kNOW ABOUT APPRENTICESHIPS

Apprenticeships are an ideal way to introduce new

talent into your organisation and to address skills

gaps and shortages.

Apprenticeships are work-based training

programmes designed around the needs of

employers leading to nationally recognised

qualifications developed by industry for industry.

There are three levels of Apprenticeship to meet

your skill needs - Intermediate, Advanced and

Higher level Apprenticeships.

Employers who take on a 16-18 year old

apprentice only pay their salary. The Government

will fund their training in full.

The National Minimum Wage for apprentices is

currently £2.65 per hour.

There are more than 250 different types of

Apprenticeships available offering over 1,400

job roles, ranging from accountancy to hair and

beauty, construction to professional cookery,

business administration to management.

Apprenticeships can be used to develop existing

employees when they change role or gain

promotion.

An Apprenticeship Grant worth £1500 is available

for small medium employers taking on their first 16

to 24 year old Apprentice. This is in addition to the

training costs being covered.

Over 130,000 organisations offer apprentice

places because they understand the benefits that

they bring to their business – you too can join that

roll of honour.

Business leaders from a range of industries and

backgrounds across England give their support

for Apprenticeships and seek to work with

organisations who are like minded.

Hiring staff can at times be a stressful, expensive and in

some cases a risky task. With so many people on the job

market there is always a flood of applications and agency

calls whenever you decide to advertise a position. We can

provide an end-to-end recruitment service which includes

creating selection criteria, developing job descriptions and

person specifications, vacancy advertising, Cv screening

and interview support.

As part of our ongoing commitment to our clients we offer

a pre-employment training solution through which we will

help design and then deliver a programme of training for

candidates seeking employment with you. This ensures

we only present to you the individuals who have the basic

knowledge and skills you need. We can also provide

ongoing training for the candidates who are placed with

you, ensuring constant staff development and access to

government funding where available.

The pre-employment training courses include developing

skills in Cv writing, body language, confidence building

and interview techniques. This approach ensures that the

candidates we send you are thoroughly prepared for the

world of work and allows you to focus on training them for

the role your business has identified a need for.

In addition we have recently designed a model to prepare

candidates for specific apprenticeship vacancies. This

model has been employed by Michelin starred Chef Glynn

Purnell in his bid to find two apprentices. Whilst continuing

to develop candidates on an individual level we also

combine their training with industry specific skills, allowing

you to choose from candidates who are equipped with

basic skills relevant to you and your business.

If you do not have an immediate recruitment need but want

to trial new individuals for your organisation, we can help

you by placing our students with you for short or longer

term placements and job trials. The students benefit from

gaining industry experience and you and your business

benefit from having a fresh pair of eyes and an extra pair

of hands, offering an injection of creativity and enthusiasm.

Offering work experience to our students also supports the

continued development of the local community. To show

our thanks to you we hold an annual dinner for employers

who have offered our students a placement.

BUSINESS AND SkIllS REvIEWWe understand that no two businesses are the same,

and the needs and legal requirements of industries can

vary substantially. To identify the training needs of your

We deliver all levels of courses from foundation to

advanced level.

At the heart of our services is flexibility; we are here to

provide you with a service that is relevant to your needs.

There are many sources of funding that organisations

could access but are not aware of, and that’s where we

come in. Our business consultants have a wealth

of knowledge and could help you tap into funding

available from a variety of sources, including the

Government, to help you with the costs of training. In

many cases this means that the training you require

could be completely free.

TRAINING SERvICES

Once your workforce is all in place one of the biggest

challenges you face is ensuring that they have the

expected levels of professional competence. Statistics

have shown that a workforce that is not properly trained,

motivated or not continuously developed will perform less

effectively.

18

needs of your business. Our bespoke training solutions

are designed by and with you and take account of your

needs.

Whether it is Motor vehicle or Health and Safety courses,

fork lift licenses or Customer Services training, we

problems in a cost effective way. This means that your

employees do not have to attend college and you

experience minimum disruption to your business. As part

of the service, we will also assess the basic skills levels

of learners in relation to Maths and English and if extra

support is needed we can provide this.

BUSINESS BRIEfINGSAs part of our commitment to you and the development

of your staff we regularly host business briefings, which

you will be invited to attend. These events are always

supported by guest speakers and are designed to keep

you up to date with current developments within your
