The Career Development Office at Goucher College offers a full range of services to help your organization find candidates for internships and part- or full-time positions. Contact us to discuss any of the following options:

JOB/INTERNSHIP POSTING Create an account on our Goucher Recruit system to post internships and part- or full-time positions by visiting goucher.edu/recruit .

EMPLOYER VISITS TO CAMPUS

• Employer Information Sessions: These tabling events, scheduled each semester, highlight 15 to 20 employers and attract large numbers of students.

• Employer presentations: Featuring just your company, you can give a talk, present a slide show, chat one on one, or hold a Q&A session. Four weeks’ notice required.

JOB FAIRGoucher participates in the Maryland Career Consortium Career Fair, held annually during the spring semester. This is a great way to meet students from many local colleges in a central location. For event and registration information, visit marylandcareerconsortium.org .

MEETING WITH CDO STAFF We welcome the opportunity to meet with you either on campus or at your organization to discuss the best ways to market your opportunities to Goucher students.

Basics of Setting Up a Goucher Internship

PAID VS. UNPAID

• Internships can be paid or unpaid. Most often, a stipend or hourly wage not only attracts strong candidates but also indicates an elevated expectation of work quality.

• Unpaid internships are subject to Department of Labor guidelines and to the standards of the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

• If you need clarification, please get in touch with your CDO contact, listed on the next page.

ACADEMIC CREDIT

• The Career Development Office can assist you in developing academic or nonacademic internships, paid or unpaid.

• A faculty sponsor will track student work and receive evaluations for all for-credit placements.

• Grades are determined by the site supervisors’ evaluations and additional work submitted to the faculty advisor.

• Academic credit is not considered compensation from the employer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How can I get the word out about my position? A: Post the opening in Goucher Recruit, our online job and internship database. Once the opening has been posted, the CDO will also promote your opportunity to all requested academic departments—as well as social networking sites.

Q: What paperwork do I need to fill out? A: For academic internships, the student will provide an internship learning agreement (ILA) that the intern site supervisor will need to sign.

Q: Is there an internship evaluation process? A: For academic internships, a final evaluation will be emailed to you to be filled out and returned to the CDO by the specified date.

Q: Should I expect a site visit from someone at Goucher? A: Site visits are common and typically will occur at the beginning or mid-term of the internship.

ESTABLISHING AN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

If your organization does not already have an established internshipprogram the Career Development Office can discuss the necessary structure with you in order to build a strong internship program and o�er suggestions for internship areas that have been well received by students previously.
