With more than 227,000 members and students in 179 countries, CIMA offers a range of business readyqualifications, professional experience requirements anda CPD programme.

What is management accounting? Management accounting combines accounting, finance and management with the cutting edge techniques needed to drive successful businesses.

    Explaining the CIMA difference

Why choose CIMA? Most accounting qualifications train people for private practice, working on external audit and tax issues. CIMA prepares people for a career in business. It teaches skills for strategic advice, managing risk and making key decisions. The syllabus is designed to deliver a strong understanding of all aspects of business so members can contribute in many areas of an organisation.

Who is CIMA for?Anyone can study CIMA, whether they are new to finance and business or an experienced professional. Find out about the different entry routes available.

The CIMA differenceThe CIMA syllabus is unique. It has been designed to blend management accounting, financial accounting and business focused subjects to ensure CIMA qualified professionals have all the skills that employers demand. The CIMA difference diagram compares the CIMA Professional Qualification syllabus to those offered by other accounting bodies.

    Choosing the right qualification

    CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting

The CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting (Cert BA) will help students with little or no accounting experience unleash their true business potential. Teaching core business and finance skills beyond simple financial accounting, Cert BA syllabus is the perfect stepping stone towards a career in business and finance.

The Cert BA is a qualification in it’s own right and also forms a formal entry route into the CIMA Professional Qualification. Once students successfully complete both qualifications and qualify for membership, they will be awarded the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation.

The CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting syllabus will be updated for 2017 based on extensive global research with industry leaders and educators.

    CIMA Professional Qualification

The CIMA Professional Qualification is a business-relevant qualification that, combined with relevant professional work experience, leads to the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation. The syllabus was updated in 2015 to meet the ever-changing needs of employers; the focus on core accounting and business skills is as strong as ever, but new topics including ‘Big Data’, integrated reporting and sustainability have been added to ensure CIMA members stay relevant and current in the workplace.
