Employee Recognition Pre-2012
Criteria to Evaluate Nominations
An outstanding effort or action on the part of the employee
Employee who sets a good example for others
Nomination should be for a recent and specific event
A good all around employee in their daily work
• Nominations that don’t meet the criteria
• “Poor performing” employee does something worthy
• Just doing their job, we’d expect anyone to do it (SafeWatch)
• Excellent employees are not nominated
• Quality of how well/poor the nomination is written
• More important to give an award or have it meet the criteria
Challenges• Employees on the committee
may not be invested because they are nominated
• Against policy/procedure
• Multiple nominations are received – but none are selected
• Employees not on the committee question the validity
• Confidentiality issues
• Previously poor performing employee can’t lose the label
• Schedule conflicts
• Public “Thank You”
• Peer to peer, employee to supervisor, and supervisor to employee
• RecognitioNotes would be reviewed monthly, routed to managers for signature and posted.
• Bulletin boards in the three buildings
• Headways
• Given to the employee at the end of the monthly posting period
