Captive Concerns:
What is your capital investment for joining the captive? Will your initial capital investment need to beadded to your total cost to stay in the captive?
Are these required contributions refundable or a membership buy in?
How easy is it to exit the captive if you want to go back to a fully insured plan?
Are the captive projections medically underwritten and approved by the captive yet or is this aprojection, as the illustration states?
If the captive’s claim funding pool runs poorly, could the captive members be assessed for additionalcapital in the following years?
Your Maximum Captive Exposure does not include the Collateral Reserve of $18,708 for 2020. For eachyear under Maximum Captive Exposure you need to add the estimated Collateral Reserve.
You must look at your “Maximum Captive Exposure” each year, not the “expected costs” as thepresentation represents. In 2020, it has an estimated max of $468,217, which is a $33,581 increase overyour Florida Blue renewal at $434,636.
Projecting out for 2021, Florida Blue is still financially beneficial with a 10% renewal increase. EstimatedFlorida Blue premium would be $478,050, where your estimated captive maximum next year is$511,992. You would have to have a 17% rate increase with Florida Blue to come close to what your2021 Captive Renewal would be.
