Strength training improves balance and stabilityStrength training is a great way to enhance balance and stability for fewer falls and injuries during other activities. Everything you do either originates from or moves through your core muscles. Every motion has a ripple effect, no matter where it started. When you walk, the motion ripples through your arms. If you swing a baseball bat, the motion ripples through your legs. Keeping your central core strong can help strengthen the rest of your body.

Always check with your doctor first before starting a new exercise routine.

Think positive this school year Studies show that optimists are at lower risk for depression and anxiety disorders than pessimists. In fact, the relationship between optimism and mental health is just as important as its relationship with your physical health.

Here are some tips to help keep your glass

half full — and help you stress less:

1. Meditate every day – People who meditate daily are more positive than people who do not. Just close your eyes, empty your mind, and breathe for ten minutes.

2. Schedule play time into your day – If you’re ultra-competitive, then stay away from playtime that involves scorekeeping. Instead, try dancing or a scenic bike ride. Laugh with friends or watch a comedy. What’s your version of fun playtime?

3. Practice seeing the full glass – Pay attention to your thoughts. When you catch yourself seeing the worst in a situation, write down the facts to put everything into perspective.

4. Write about your daily positive experiences – It’s one thing to think positive thoughts, but writing them down adds the element of record-keeping. When your outlook needs a boost, read through your journal to recall the good times.

Reminder for family status changes and other qualified life events When certain life events

occur (marriage, birth, etc.), you may make

changes to your benefits that are related to

the event. Be sure to contact the Conroe ISD

Benefits Office no later than 30 calendar

days after the event date to request a

change; otherwise, changes can only

be made during annual

enrollment.
