1. Why does Coleman think that traditional qualities, such as intelligence, toughness, determination,

and vision are not enough for a good leader? Explain and elaborate your answer in about 5

sentences.

Answer:

First, I don’t have any tiny idea who is Coleman, this might refer to Daniel Goleman the

psychologist I guest. But, leadership is thing to figure out by ourselves. A good leader have to

pursue charisma for the group to convince them to do things right. A leader is not a follower but

support the group sometimes from behind. He has to have self control and be able to influence

people from social aspect and behavior.

2. According to Coleman, someone who is intelligent and highly-skilled can be a failure at the job.

Why is this? Find your example from the article and elaborate.

Answer:

In this article there is a study results that emotional intelligence played an increasingly important

role at the highest levels of a company, where differences in technical skills are of negligible

importance. This is a prove that strong technical skills located in one aspect of every job, but in

further discussion and consideration people are seeking for coordination, trust, negotiation to

pursue end target of project.

One with highly personal competency usually doesn’t look every aspect as proportionally as it

has to be. In further level of project review some handling of partial job can cause the job doesn’t

move forward.

3. What is meant by emotional intelligence, and how one demonstrates emotional intelligence?

Answer:

Emotional intelligence can be described as self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy,

social skill-in turn.

Emotional intelligence can be found in one of these components. A person who is self aware,

knows exactly his limitation. He is confidence with things he does. He always tries using tactics to

approach better working performance. He is also looking for passion and compassion in work

and be able to work with others, because he realizes the higher targets pre require solid team

work. Be focus to find best solution together with the team and he gives enough space for

understand why mistakes happen without blaming other but all at once prevent same mistakes

happen again. Person who has self-awareness thinks big and pursue bigger objectives for team

but also have good overview and can classify and manage priorities.

Self aware people work for money but much more for satisfaction and continual improvement

which can always provide new challenges and energizing.

4. What do you think about emotional intelligence for leadership? Do you have an example in your

job or in your life? Explain and elaborate.

Answer:

I think strong leadership can mean to achieve a goal more effectively than any others. Please

allow me to go to one of the most extreme match in the history of soccer, the semifinal match of

world cup 2014 in Brazil. There are many discussions why the Brazil team can be defeated by the

german team with 7-1. Was it not one of a final match? Didn’t they fair enough to expect for more

qualified event than a butchery? We have seen not a semifinal match but as a qualification level

alike.

Many observer said it was a conceptial or strategy mistake or better to say as a failure in

leadership. Timely we have no doubt the Brazilian have long history of football. As samba team,

they can not only playing football but can really demonstrate the beauty and art of football itself,

to play football with passion, every player has high grade of personal skills may be one of the best

competent football in the world.

The failure of this match was in emotional intelligence. Every player played without deep

understanding of communication. They go with heavy load on the shoulder as a functional player

who has to make a goal as striker, to hold the game as midfield or to keep the defence as back

player. They cannot play as a free player out from the box. Each of them got an order what to do

and forget one of important aspect calls “opportunity”. A good player with self awareness knows

exactly his strong and limitation and able to maintain opportunity to be productive to a goal for

the team.

From the side of german team. They might not have a good personal competency like the Brazil

team, but they can communicate each other much better. Each reflect of situation can be translate

to be an opportunity for everyone who is ready to make a goal. It means to everyone who is in the

right time at the right position and did the right thing correctly. We can see from the result that

the 7 goals have been made by 6 person. No one was obligated to make goal. This kind of

situation give space and stimulate player to be creative and improvisationful.
