Definitions • Personal Competence - Ability to stay aware of emotions and manage

behavior and tendencies

• Self – awareness- Not about deep, dark secrets or unconscious

motivations - Developing straightforward and honest understanding

of what makes one tick.

• Self – management - Emotional awareness to stay flexible and direct your

behavior positively. - Ability to put momentary needs on hold to pursue

larger, more important goals.

Definitions • Social competence - Ability to understand other people’s moods, behavior and

motives in order to improve the quality of your relationship

• Social awareness- Accurately understand other people’s emotions

• Relationship management- Poses the greatest challenge during times of stress.

Conflicts fester when passively avoid problems- Lack of skills needed to initiate a direct, yet

constructive conversations
