When Emotions Take Hold

• People begin to avoid you and your social life is affected

• Leads to relationship problems & breakdowns

• Prevents you from developing your true potential and living a fulfilling life!

Why Emotions Can Run Our Lives• Ever tried to control an intense feeling, emotion or improve your mood?

• We look for ways to distract ourselves by doing certain behaviours or use substances to soothe our emotions.

• The MOST addictive chemicals are …

… EMOTIONS!

• EVERYTHING we do is to achieve an emotional state!

Why Emotions & Habits Can Be Hard To Control

• 95% of our actions are run by unconscious programing. We are only 5% in control consciously.

• The primary goal of the unconscious mind is survival.

• The unconscious plays out “patterns” that we learnt at a time that was keeping us safe at some level.

Why Emotions & Habits Can Be Hard To Control (cont…)

• This is why we can be addicted to things that we know are not good for us on a conscious level.

• The emotional mind is stronger than the logic mind.

• The unconscious remembers EVERYTHING, even if you cannot consciously remember. It does this by linking it to emotion.

The Mind / Body Cycle

• Thoughts in the mind continue to run the emotion in the body

• Emotions in the body continue to run thoughts in the mind

The Emotional Behaviour Cycle

2. Thought / Belief

3. Emotion

4. Behaviour / Action

1. Trigger

How a Thought Becomes a Belief

• We have around 10,000 thoughts a day on average

• A belief is a thought that we accept as true.

• When a thought has an emotional charge attached to it, it becomes a belief.

www.thelifefacilitator.com © 2013

What is An Emotion?

• Our thoughts set off a chemical reaction in our brain which produces the emotions we feel running through our bodies.

• The word E-motion comes from Energy In Motion.

• The Law of The Conservation of Energy (from physics) tells us that, “Energy cannot be created or destroyed … it can only change form.”

• Quantum physics tells us that EVERYTHING is energy when it is broken down to it’s smallest possible components.

Behaviour or Action

• A behaviour is an action or reaction to the emotional response from a thought or belief.

• It can be using a chemical to soothe or calm the emotion …

• OR

• It can be a behaviour that get’s acted out (such as an angry outburst, chewing nails, shopping spree, eating without being hungry, etc)

Ways To Control Emotions & Overcome Habits

• Use WILLPOWER!

• You only get a limited amount of willpower per day.

• It takes about 30 days of consistant effort to use willpower to change a habit.

• Willpower is about changing the behaviour, NOT the driving emotion!

• The underlying emotion will remain and the behaviour will either return, or become another unresourceful behaviour!

• The behaviour could become resourceful, but again, the strong emotion is still there looking to be resolved.

www.thelifefacilitator.com © 2013

There Is An Easier & Better Way!• Most programs are based on changing the BEHAVIOUR and don’t

address the underlying driving emotion.

• It is very hard to move forward in life when you have a strong emotion holding you back and keeping you stuck.

• Your head gets “foggy” and it drains you of valuable energy

• So … what can we do about this ???

• RELEASE the Driving Emotion!

www.thelifefacilitator.com © 2013

Release The Driving EmotionReleasing the Driving Emotion can result in …

• Behaviour being easier to change

• A sense of physical release in the body

• More energy in the body

• More clarity in the mind

• Possibility that other old emotions become unstuck and other behaviours become easier to change.

• Possibility that pains reduce and other conditions improve or disappear.

• Life just gets easier and better

My View On What Emotions Are About

• An emotion (or a feeling) is a resistance to what is. It is an unrealistic expectation on someone or something to be what it’s not.

• It’s a natural feedback system that’s alerting us that we are trying to control someone or something.

• This can be run unconsciously from patterns we have developed in our past.

• In our mind, we are stuck in our past or projecting our future and continuously living it out instead of living in the present moment.

www.thelifefacilitator.com © 2013

My View About Emotions (cont...)

• Emotions or feelings are looking to get your attention!

• A feeling is a “part” of us. It is a feedback system to tell us that something is not right and to pay attention.

• It is a “part of us” looking to become part of a whole with us again.

• You fix a flat tyre on a car to make it “whole” again.

Questions

• Wouldn’t it be good to release a driving emotion all together?

• Doesn’t it make more sense to release a stuck emotion before looking to change a behaviour?

• What would it be like to shatter those limiting beliefs that are holding you back, and also change those old patterns that are no longer serving you?

• How would life be different for you if you were in control of your emotions and had the power to change the behaviours that are running your life?

Testimonial 1

“ I first came to Michael for help with addiction. In one session, I felt that he had instilled permanent change in me. I regained my power and my self-control, and it was an amazing feeling. I decided to have a second follow up session, just to make sure I had cemented it as a permanent change.

Now, I feel free, uplifted, and I really do feel in control. I haven’t relapsed, and I don’t plan on it. I am more in touch with myself, my emotions, and my body than I ever have been, and it feels fantastic. “

Testimonial 2

“ To release so many things (anger, pain, hurt, depression) that have been stuck inside me. In fact, it is such a relief that much of my ‘stuckness’ is now gone.

I feel so much different in the way that I see things and I accept things differently now. Perhaps it’s too early to tell but I can feel the difference in my heart now. It’s so much lighter than before yesterday. “

Testimonial 3

“ I felt, I was stuck in my career and my efforts at work were not valued by my superiors. I was confused about my job, whether to stick with the job or quit and start all over again.

Michael used a unique way of probing my thought process to find out my actual problem.

I have an overwhelming sense of peace and calm and a solid feeling of knowing where I am. “

Testimonial 4

“ You created a space for me that allowed me to truly explore and delve into the parts of me that I have been spending 20 years trying to ignore. You managed to do this in an hour and a half! I now know what to do when I have a lump in my throat or a knot in my stomach… and I cannot thank you enough. ”

Testimonial 5

“ Without Michael there to guide me through my fears and anxieties which were causing physical symptoms, I would not be where I am today – full of hope, confident and gratitude for his motivating and insightful sessions.

So many changes have taken place already within me and in my life. My husband has noticed and appreciated, an amazing difference in my happiness and the considerable reduction in anxiety episodes. It is a true feeling of calm and clarity with my thoughts and actions. “
