Apply - Do you worry about trivial things that really do not matter?Are you thinking about building up (edifying) others?List some "fables" (questions) that only lead to more questions.

Apply - We would say that the disobedient and liars are not nearly as bad as others in the list from question 4? Yet God sees them that bad. Think of some of your sins . . . Do you see your sin as God sees it?



Examine -1. How does Paul describe God's grace?2. Why did Jesus come into the world?3. Who is Paul among this class of people?4. Paul was a "chief sinner". God's saving him showed forth what?

5. What was a pattern to us?6. List five descriptions of God that Paul says about Him?

Apply - Do you pray for political leaders, parents, bosses at work, Pastors and such? We are commanded to pray for them.If you have not been, confess it as sin and seek to do so in the future.

Apply - This passage primarily applies to women but, men; you should gain from this how your wife and daughters should respond to situations. Look for a potential young lady who already obeys these principles when the time comes to look for a wife. Girls, how does this match your life? Does your dress reflect godliness or worldliness?

Paul deals with how to pray in the first part and how to dress in the second.

Examine -1. Is the office of bishop a good work?2. Should we desire it?3. Define Bishop - 4. List the sixteen qualifications of a pastor. Out beside each one put a short definition.

5. How should a pastor's children act?6. Why should he have his house in subjection?7. Why should he not be a novice?8. Why should he have a good report with those that are without?

9. What does “without” mean?Apply - This is quite a list. It should do two things for you. 1) If you plan on going into the ministry, it should show you the need to develop these things. 2) It should make you appreciative of a pastor who meets these. Ours does. This week I want you to write a note to tell him why you appreciate him. He will enjoy it. When you have completed it come tell Pastor Ogle for a bonus. Examine -1. List the nine qualifications of a deacon. Define them as well.

2. What four things are mentioned for deacon's wives?

3. What must first happen?4. Then how are they to use the office?5. What do those who serve faithfully in this office have for themselves? (2 things)

Apply - The church has 2 offices and we have looked the last two days at both. God has a high requirement for both. How does your life match both of these lists? Ask yourself, “Would I meet either list”?



Examine -1. What did Paul hope to do soon?2. Is it possible he will be delayed?3. What did he want Timothy to know?4. Whose church is it?5. What is the church in relation to truth?6. The mystery of godliness is .7. What 6 things does it say happened to God?

8. To what is this referring?9. This verse gives a brief synopsis of whose life?

Apply-Each one of the six things in question #7 has significance. Choose one and write a small paragraph how it has changed your life?

Apply - Has your conscience been seared? Do the commercials or cursing on T.V. not bother you anymore? Ask God to restore your clean conscience and do your part! Psalm 119:9

Apply - Are you striving to be Godly? Is this your whole focus?Or if not how might you be pre-occupied with other things?

Examine -1. What is an elder?2. What should you not do to him?3. How should you treat him?4. How should you treat younger men?5. How about the elder women?6. How about younger women?7. What does that make all of us?8. How should you treat widows?9. Define Requite -10. Who should show piety at home?11. Why should they do this?

Apply - Do you treat people in our church this way?If so, name some ways.

These are commands not options!



Examine -1. What makes a widow trustworthy of church support?2. In whom does she trust?3. In what does she continue?4. How often does she do this?5. What happens if a woman lives for pleasure?6. How should he (Timothy) give these things?7. Why should he give it?8. What is someone who provides not for his house?9. What has he denied?10. What is he worse than?

Apply - There is nothing sweeter than a godly older lady and there is nothing worse than an ungodly older lady!! See if you can find a story in the Bible of a widow who served God! (She was given a promise) If you find it call Pastor Ogle!! Write in your own words her story here.

3. What should be done with the younger widows?4. Why was this true?5. What would they bring to themselves?6. What did they cast off?7. Does this mean they’re not saved?NOTE - Probably when ladies joined the widows they took a vow of service to the Lord. To break that means punishment (Eccl. 5:4-5)8. What would they be?9. Where would they wander?10. What do they start doing with their idle time?

Apply-Paul deals a great deal with widows! Why do you think he did?

What is pure religion? (James 1:27)So does God think it's important?

Apply - Although it was written primarily to young widows, are you giving occasion to the devil?How do you respond to the devil?



Examine -1. If an elder rules well, of what should he be counted worthy?

2. Who especially should get this?3. What does each of these words mean?4. What verse is being quote in verse 18?5. What does muzzle mean?6. Of what is a labourer worthy?7. What is the principle being taught here?8. What should you not listen to against a pastor?9. If you do, how many witnesses should you have?10. How should you treat those that sin?11. Where should he rebuke them?12. Why do it this way?

Apply - We will deal with just verse 20 in application! How would you feel if you were rebuked openly?If you see this happen would you fear that it may happen to you?The point is to take care of sin yourself!



Examine -1. Who is he charging?2. What 3 "people" does he charge them before?

3. What should he observe?4. How should he do this?5. What should we do with partiality?6. What should you not do? (vs.22)7. In context of verse 22, of what would be a sin to partake?8. How should you keep yourself?9. What was the water like then?10. For what could Timothy drink wine?11. What is verse 24 saying?12. How does this affect us?13. The principle of verse 24 in the negative is stated in the positive in verse 25. How does this affect you?

Apply - Sometimes our good is open, sometimes it's secret. Sometimes our sin is open, sometimes it's secret. When you look at someone, remember this both ways.

If God puts this much emphasis on widows, shouldn't we? When is the last time you did something for a widow?

For examine and apply today, search for a widow in your neighborhood or church and do something special for them.

Apply - Although we do not have slaves and masters today we do have bosses and employees. Do you treat your boss the way this passage describes?This may give you an opportunity to witness!



Examine - 1. Is it possible that men would teach something other than what Paul is writing?2. What are wholesome words according to this passage?3. To what two things does he warn about men not consenting?4. What does Paul say about these men?5. What do they know?6. What do they like to do?7. What four things does he say comes about from these “strifes of words”?8. These men’s disputing are described as what?9. Of what are they destitute?10. What do they think is gain?11. How should we treat them?12. What is great gain?

Apply - Have you ever met someone who is constantly asking questions that really can’t be answered?

You should stay away from those people!What are you looking at for gain in your

life?Are you content with Jesus?Meditate on the words to the song “I’d Rather Have Jesus”. Make this your prayer to the Lord.



Examine -1. What did we bring into the world?2. What will we carry out of the world?3. What are our two basic needs?4. If we have these what should be our attitude?THOUGHT – When is the last time you thanked your parents for providing you with more than your basic needs?5. What happens to those that are rich?6. How does he describe the lust of rich people?7. What does it do to people?8. In what do they drown?9. What is the root of all evil?10. What can coveting after it cause you to do?11. With what have they pierced themselves?

Apply-Everything in life seems to be focused on money. All of the ads and things talk about money. It is easy to get materialistic. Are you living for money?You do not have to have it to live for it! If you have some, what are you doing with that money that is eternal?

Apply - Go back to question 3 and write out how you think you are doing in each of these pursuits. Choose one you need the most work on and write out what you will do to improve in that this week.

Apply - The only thing that matters is what we do for God! The rich are to use their riches to meet the needs of others. What are you now doing with your money?
