    HONDURAS: April-

June 2013Just aer Easter this past April I began a series of extended vis-its to the new missionary Diocese of La Ceiba on the north coastof Honduras. Shortly aer arriving and assisng with the heavy

weekend schedule of Masses, I traveled to Comayagua to helpman the friary while the brothers there were away on retreat.

Upon returning to La Ceiba we experienced the rst of severalearth tremors that destroyed homes in nearby San Juan Pueblo.

I was able to accompany Bishop Michael Lenihan on a solidarityvisit to those aected.

May brought the patronal feast of San Isidro that included pro-cessions, Masses (including one outdoors) and other celebra-

ons. The following weekend of Pentecost I traveled again toComayagua for a number of youth formaon acvies

(Missioners of Christ, Communion and Liberaon, Corazn Pu-ro) and a visit to the Granja boys orphanage.

June was an extremely busy and evenul month; its the

Month of Youth in Honduras, and included many youth acvi-es, including a Eucharisc youth encounter for the cathedralparish on Corpus Chris Sunday. On June 13th we traveled tothe outlying community of San Antonio in Tegucigalpita to cele-brate their patronal feast with them - it was the rst visit of apriest in over a year. In mid-June Bishop Michael created the

second new parish since the establishment of the diocese, Im-maculate Heart of Mary in the Sauce secon of the city. Thatevent was preceded by a week of evangelizaon and prepara-on acvies.

Finally, in July Franciscan Mission Outreach was pleased to beable to help sponsor a delegaon of ve young people to repre-sent the Diocese of La Ceiba at World Youth Day in Rio de Janei-

    ro, Brazil with Pope Francis.
