Plugins from EMC Celerra, CLARiiON and Symmetrix/V-Max allow VM Administrators to quickly and easily provision storage and deploy VMFS data stores and gain deeper insight into how the storage is used.

Overview With EMC’s second-generation vCenter plugin family (Virtual Storage Integrator, CLARiiON plugin, and Celerra NFS Plugin), EMC gives VMware administrators the ability to simplify visibility, provisioning, and management of EMC storage through the VMware lens.

From VMware vCenter, administrators can leverage array functions to increase the efficiency in their VMware environment and hardware accelerates VM deployment. The EMC plugins for VMware:

• Provide storage visibility with ESX and VM mapping

• Provision storage within vCenter across all available protocols

• Supports array based, VM consistent snapshots

• Integrate with VMware View for provisioning and deploying

• Compress VMDK’s in real-time to maximize storage efficiency

• Are provided at no additional cost to EMC customers

EMC’s vCenter plugins provide more VMware integration and unique capabilities than any other storage vendor. Other EMC integration points with VMware include: VMware aware Navisphere, Unisphere, Recoverpoint, Replication Manager; vStorage API for Array Integration (VAAI) support on Unified and V-Max platforms; vStorage API for Multipathing support in PowerPath/VE; vStorage API for Site Recovery Manager support across all products; and vStorage API for Data Protection, vSphere Changed Block Tracking and vCenter integration in EMC Avamar.

EMC Celerra With the introduction of EMC Celerra NFS Plugin, the following functionality is available through the vSphere client:

• Provision NFS datastores automatically including all underlying Celerra functions on ESX hosts or automatically across vSphere clusters

• Extend and reconfigure NFS datastores and underlying Celerra Filesystems

• Quickly and efficiently create snapshots and clones of virtual machines and datastores

• Leverage the Celerra’s unique capability for production NFS datastore-level and VM-level real-time compression and decompression

• The NFS plugin can mass replicate individual virtual machines

EMC CLARiiON

With the introduction of EMC CLARiiON Plugin, the following functionality is available through the vSphere client:

• Provision VMFS datastores automatically including all underlying CLARiiON functions on ESX hosts or automatically across vSphere clusters

• Extend and reconfigure VMFS and block storage

• Leverage Snapview for mass datastore-level replication of Virtual Machines

EMC Symmetrix/V-Max With the introduction of EMC Symmetrix/V-Max Plugin, the following functionality is available through the vSphere client:

• Create pools of virtually provisioned storage and provide those to VMware teams to use while protecting other workloads from any impact and enabling VMware teams to self-provision the storage allocated to them

• Allocate storage to specific VMware Infrastructure Objects or share it across the entire cluster

• Extend and reconfigure VMFS and block storage

• Leverage TimeFinder for mass datastore-level replication of Virtual Machines

EMC Virtual Storage Integrator Formally known as the Storage Viewer, the EMC Virtual Storage Integrator (VSI) Plugin introduces the following functionality within the vSphere client:

• Discover and identify EMC Celerra, CLARiiON and Symmetrix arrays

• Present granular details of the storage allocated to the Virtual Infrastructure from each array

Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery VMware’s Site Recovery Manager is the standard for the disaster recovery planning and execution in a VMware virtual infrastructure. With features such as non-disruptive testing, single-click execution of a disaster failover, and the level of automation and control over the process Site Recovery Manger truly enable recovery management in the virtual datacenter. EMC was the first storage vendor to offer an integrated failback tool to manage the transition back to the primary site once the disaster was mitigated in manner as simple as the failover process.

The replication technologies that support an automated failback plugin to vCenter include:

• EMC Celerra IP Replicator (for NFS and iSCSI)

• EMC RecoverPoint

EMC Data Center Insight With Data Center Insight from EMC IONIX, customers can quickly and easily

• Automate the population of EMC and Third-party CMDBs with best-practices configuration items (CI) and allow customizations to define customer-specific CIs

• Build a single, reconciled view of the truth about the IT environment

• Visualize application and service dependencies across the data center – including applications, servers, networks, and storage (both physical and virtual)

• Leverage the solution as a critical component of a federated and modular CMS to achieve a single and accurate view of the IT environment so those responsible for configuration management can understand – across multiple domains – the resources underpinning business services
