- Mason jar with lid - 1/4 yard polyester organza for wrap - 1/8 yard print lightweight canvas for handle - Small piece of quilter's cotton for lid - Heavy-weight water-soluble stabilizer (Sulky Ultra Solvy or fibrous water-soluble Vilene) - Air-erase pen - 1/2" - 5/8" wide ribbon for handle - Tape measure and ruler - Fabric glue - Battery-operated lights (fairy lights; 5' long) - Decorative grass or raffia The designs used in this tutorial and video include:

L3942, Ohli the Owl with Sweet Dreams (Vintage)D9978, Victorian Rose Corner 2J5567, Breathtaking Bluebonnets 2S2622, Starburst Swirls 2

When choosing designs to use in this project, use light and open designs. Those allow the light to shine through the organza.

Begin by measuring the circumference of the jar. In this example, the circumference is 12".

Measure the height from the bottom of the jar to the point where it begins to curve inward near the top.

In this example, the measurement is 5".

Add 1" to the width, and 2" to the height measurement.

Draw a rectangle on organza to those dimensions.

In this example, the rectangle is 13" wide and 7" high.

A template, or printout of a design, is an excellent tool to help with placement.

Print a template of the design from your embroidery software. If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom's TrueSizer is a free program to use.

Place the template in the center of the rectangle. With an air-erase pen, mark the center point and the vertical and horizontal axis lines.

Hoop the organza with a piece of heavy-weight water-soluble stabilizer, like Sulky Ultra Solvy. Or, use a fibrous water-soluble stabilizer, like Vilene.

Line up the marks on the organza with the marks on the hoop.

Because organza is sheer and the stitches will be seen from both sides, wind a bobbin with the same thread used in the needle.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design. Move the hoop so the needle is right over the center point, and embroider the design.

When embroidering on organza, a size 11 or 75/11 embroidery needle is a good choice.

For each color change, wind a bobbin with the same thread used in the needle.

After embroidering, trim away the excess water-soluble stabilizer.

Trim away any long threads on the back, too.

Soak the organza in water to remove the rest of the water-soluble stabilizer.

Allow the piece to air dry completely, then press it, using a pressing cloth.

Organza melts easily, so use a low setting on the iron.

Fold the top and bottom edges 1/2" to the wrong side, and pin in place.

Sew a seam along the inner edge of the folds.

Align the short ends, right sides together, and pin in place.

Sew a 1/2" seam along the pinned edge.

The next step is to make the handle.

Take a piece of lightweight canvas and cut it to 3" x 9".

Fold the long edges in 1/2" to the wrong side.

Press the fold.

Fold the fabric in half and press.

Sew a 1/8" seam along each long edge.

To determine where to attach the ribbon for hanging, wrap the ribbon around the top of the jar and tie it in a bow.

Cut the tails of the ribbon as long as you'd like.

Make marks on the ribbon 1/4 of the way around the jar from both sides of the bow.

Remove the ribbon and pin the raw ends of the handle to the marks on the ribbon.

Sew the handle to the ribbon with a 1/4" seam.

Wrap the ribbon around the jar. Tie a knot, and a bow.

Add a cotton print to the top of the jar. To do this, trace the lid onto the wrong side of a piece of quilter's cotton.

Cut out the circle.

Add fabric glue to the top of the lid, and press the fabric in place.

Add a string of battery-operated lights. They're also called fairy lights, and a 5' long string is a nice size.

Put them in the jar with raffia or decorative grass.

Screw the lid on top. COPY

Slide the wrap over the jar.

The embroidered wraps are the perfect adornment for these Mason jar luminaries. Translucent organza allows the light to shine through beautifully.

Create several of the organza wraps to light a pathway in your backyard, or lend a soft glow to your patio area. Pick different colors and designs for a varied, eye-catching look.
