Corporate Social Responsibility? What’s all the fuss about?

“... the private sector can make a huge deal of

difference in poor people’s life around the world with balancing between self-interest and caring for others, profit and poor which always have been

keeping distance.”

~ Bill Gates at Davos, 2008Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates

CSR is all about enabling people to experience their

miracle

What is all the fuss about CSR?

“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you’ll do things differently”

~ Winston Churchill

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world”

~Mahatma Gandhi

“Goodness is the only investment that never fails”

~ Henry David Thoreau, American writer

Understanding your purpose

“Success is knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others” ~ John C. Maxwell “Reactive firms deny responsibility and do less, defensive firms admit responsibility but fight it , accommodative firms accept responsibility by doing all that is required, while proactive firms anticipate responsibility by doing more than is required.” Kai Hockerts, Mette Morsing, Jonas Eder-Hansen, Per Krull (Copenhagen Business School, Denmark)

The Spirit Key (Intuition)

With this key you partner with the spirit by listening to the intuitive voice.

Adhering to corporate social responsibilities, is likely to lead to easier experience when dealing with politicians and government regulators.

Let you inner voice guide you in a conflict about profit maximisation at the expense of society and the environment. Let the intuitive voice guide you.

The Risk key4

Small pressure groups should be taken seriously by corporations. Mohamed Bouziz’s act became a catalyst for the Tunisian Revolution and the Arab spring.

The risk of CSR is that you yield no measurable results, yet taking social responsibility seriously, is less likely to attract public campaigns and demands for government inquiries against it.

The bible is riddled with stories of faith in the midst of adversity (David vs Goliath, Moses in front of the Red Sea, Jesus’ disciples vs the Roman empire).

CSR initiatives are usually broad based and long term as they focus on community related issues such as poverty eradication, environmental issues. To the contrary, sponsorship are usually concerned with addressing a particular need with the aim of gaining exposure leverage at that particular time.

While Corporate Social Responsibility is built on the premise of making money in an ethical and sustainable way, sponsorship programs on the other hand are focused on creating or building brand awareness.
