Emanuele Viscusoby Pierre Restany

The sculptures of Emanuele Viscuso speak of movement and rhythm, of harmony and therefore of music. Of solid music: the artist’s aim is to project his modular discourse into a fourth dimension. Viscuso’s forms, folded shells or endless Jacob’s ladders are the product of a “careful dosing of calculations and other alternatives”. Viscuso’s compositions, based on wood or metallic modular elements, also live in accordance with the law of a hypothetical future, a becoming, a permanent potential for transformation..........

......His existential commitment is almost of a moral order. “I am an artist”, says Viscuso, “because this enables me to create… creating is something  we all do even if we do not all of us realize that the act of creation is in the first place a divine prerogative”.

Emanuele Viscuso’s fourth dimension is the free territory of all the dreams of human beauty, elegance in proportions, dignity in spiritual perspectives. Viscuso’s sculpture shares with music this blend inspired by the heart and mind, by sensibility and the spirit: it is the open city of out human becoming.

Pierre Restany Milan, 15 January 1988

Movement, rhythm, harmony, vibration = Music But…….

Page 5: Emanuele Viscuso Sculptures

…..how did everything start?

Emanuele Viscuso at that time was a piano player and composer. But he was in search for new dimensions of art .

Page 6: Emanuele Viscuso Sculptures

He was thinking how to transform the music in a series of material structures.

He had in his mind the concept of classical beauty and harmony, of eternity and modernity at the same time.

It is hard to believe but ……

Page 7: Emanuele Viscuso Sculptures

…..he had his sculptures inspired in a dream. Wait for animation.

Page 8: Emanuele Viscuso Sculptures

One night he went to bed and prayed to have an artistic inspiration. That night he had a dream: he saw his sculptures before he started to create them. In the dream he saw that the sculptures were modular. After that dream, he spent several months looking for modular elements to combine together.Till he found…..

....big packaging staples in metal.

What can one do with that?

No! From love!Bonum verum et pulchrum inter se converguntur (St. Thomas of Aquin)

“The good, the truth and the beautiful converge”

Emanuele Viscuso never used his income for luxury but for helping the elders and the poor, like Mrs. Pierina Leone, to whom he provided a home in Milan, Italy for 25 years!

He always used his extra time for charity, like for years as volunteer with Vozza Association at Fatebenefratelli Hospital in Milan nursing at the neuro-chirurgical section.

He always used his energies for culture and still devotes his work for free at the Sicilian Film Festival in Miami, created by himself in 2006; at the International Festival of Organ Music in his native Sicily, created in 2008 and at the Italian Academy of Cuisine in Miami, as delegate, with the incredible result of bringing Italian food even in the space with Nasa.

Love makes miracles.Emanuele Viscuso
