THE GOD WHO SPEAKS - YEAR OF THE WORD 2020 - SUNDAY MEDITA-TIONS, 1st Sunday of Lent

Meditation: Temptations, ordeals and hardships are par t of life and are most cer -tainly needed as we set to serve the Lord. These are the moments when we choose whether or not we want to follow Jesus. However, as St Paul reminds us nobody is tempted beyond their strength. Because Christ has conquered we are confident we can be victorious as we share in Jesus’ triumph.

Act: Angels came to serve Jesus at the moment of his tr ials. We are surrounded by people who are going through moments of trials in their family life, their health or work. Ponder how you could be an angel to serve them and so help them pass through this moment.

PARISH RETREAT

Our Parish Retreat will be held from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (March 20th to 22nd 2020). Led by Fr. Elias CSSR . All the par ishioners are en-couraged to take part in this retreat.

Please pray for the success of the retreat

RETREAT PRAYER

Heavenly Father, We ask you to bless us during our Parish Retreat. Open our hearts to your grace, that we may be better in following your way. Bless all the families in our parish. Help them in times of struggle to overcome difficulty and distress. Bless every-body in our parish in their joys and sorrows. Bless the old, the young, the lonely, the poor, the sick, those without work, those in grief, those in despair, those who have lost their way. May your love be upon us, O Lord, as we place all our hope in you. Amen.

CARDINAL’S LENTEN APPEAL 2020

Cardinal Nichols thanks you for your generous support for the Cardinal’s Lenten Ap-peal. Your donations help fund initiatives in parishes, schools and charities in three mis-sion areas. Marriage and Family Life: enriching and supporting marriages, the essential building block of society and the Church. Youth and Evangelisation: supporting young people, the future of the Church, as they grow in their relationship with God and deepen their Catholic faith. The Church’s Service in Society: putting our faith into action by serving poor, lonely and marginalised people. This year, the Cardinal is asking us to think about families who are struggling to put food on the table, even though they may be in work. One initiative the Cardinal’s Lenten Appeal supports is school holiday clubs, where children can have fun, and prepare and eat a healthy meal during the school holi-days. Please take a donation leaflet as you leave Mass today and put your donation in the Lenten Alms box in the Church porch.

CAFOD LENT FAMILY FAST DAY

On Friday 6 March is the 60th anniversary of the first family Fast Day led by our found-ing mothers and, as it has been for sixty years, is an opportunity to reach out and sup-port highly-skilled local experts around the world who help the poorest members of our global family. Please collect your Family Fast Day envelope this week and give whatev-er you can to help experts like sister Consilia - a nun and trained pharmacist who treats people in rural Zimbabwe - continue their vital work.

On Friday 6 March, can you eat a simple meal in solidarity and give what you save to help the poor. Soup and a roll will be served in the Marian Centre after 12noon Mass on this Friday . Donations will go to CAFOD.

Faith Sharing Sessions are held on Tuesdays after 9.30am Mass and 6pm, and on Thursdays evening 7.30pm, beginning with 3rd March 2020. The printed booklet enti-tled ‘A WORD for LENT’ will be available at the group sessions. All groups would be pleased to welcome additional participants.
